The JX-305 makes a great controller keyboard!!!. You can map each channel to each part and manipulate them independently!. This synth offers alot of cool patches ready to be edited with tons of features and massive realtime control!. The JX-305 makes a great all in 1 solution for any type of music and would quite happily stand alone for a powerful performence. The 8-track sequencer comes ready to record with enough data space to complete to satisfy. HOWEVER, and this is a HOWEVER specifically aimed at you trance and dance artists!, it is a very wise choice to be turning towards a novation k-station type synth for creating and producing powerful raw original waveforms / sounds!. You could quite easily manipulate the K-station with the JX-305 but remember its not a do it all workstation!, I would seriously consider buying a seperate sequencer to work with. I would not recommend the JX-305 as your only synth, it has alot of cons. Hope this helps

I bought this Synth for 500� three years ago. I still havn't explored 50% of it's capabilities, just to tell you how deep it is. The editing features are VERY complete if you take your time to look deeply under the hood of this one.
Beside this, it makes a cool 8 knob controller for DAW based work. And where would you get all those included features for this price, including a nice touch sensitive keyboard WITH AFTERTOUCH?
You can get great sounding patches out of it, I even managed to program a decent Piano sound, wich is not really its strength.
Really GREAT Value for money.

Still one of the very best deals for the money out there. All things considered the JX-305 is really hard to beat for the price. Get some extra 5v smartmedia cards for it on eBay and you can expand to your hearts content. I have a whole box of smartmedia cards loaded up with data that can keep me going all night long if i need too. No problems with the JX-305. Cant imagine replacing it unless of course money was no object. It has served me well.

This is a good synth, but not great. It is a bit limited up to todays standards, like it isn't expandable and the presets sounds a bit old. But if u make your own sounds it can still sound really good. The drum kits are great, the sequencer is good, it is very tweakable and has good effects. I am thinking about selling my JX and getting an MC 909. I reckon Roland should make a JX-405 samplinggroovesynth which is a keyboard based on the MC 909.

The JX 305 is one of my favorite synths for alot of reasons. First it's the cheapest, coolest, fat sounding workstation I own. All you haters are so caught up in what a synth does or doesn't sound like. I bought this synth when it was brand new about 6 years ago and it is no where near dated. I own a Triton, Nord, Motif, Oberheims, Moogs, ect. What it comes down to is preference. What do you like, What does it for you? The thing I really dig about the 305 is when I go on holiday and want to take a synth with me that I can effectively write songs with and space is an issue guess which one I take? The Roland JX-305 Groovesynth!!! Grow up please!!!!!!!
