Shonen a hobbyist user from Cleveland, OH USA writes:
Damn, I love this synth! Got my for $500.00 about 1/2 year ago on eBay. If you don't have one, get one ASAP! Hard to get these days. Yeah, some of the presets are lame, especially the acoustic instruments, but this machine is made for dance, Hip Hop, & R & B shit! If you are a techno artist like me, this synth is great for Trance. Anyways, there are many presets that rock! The traditional instruments are there just to make this board more complete. Use the 9 real time control knobs to fix the shity sounds or create your own! I read alot of reviews, I found that those who put down this synth, professional or not, didn't even take the time to explore it's capabilities! This synth offers any musician exceptional playability, and I rate it 5 out of 5, because it is pretty damn close to 100% perfect.

When I bought this thing I knew it was gonna be worth it, but when I got it, it was more than I bargained for. This synth is simply one of the best. User friendly and kick serious butt!!! Not to loud though I already had cops come to my house with this thing ;). Although the synths sounds could be better it makes up with its options and creativity. On a scale to 5 it gets a 10!

i have had this board for at least six months now. almost burned the damn manual after i started opening her up though. hey roland, write one in english next time, ok? i do mostly experimental/noise/indutrial and this synth is the best i have found for what i am doing. true, lots of the presets go from mild to horrible, but that is why they gave you knobs and buttons. once you get to know how to edit and add effects, you can build/make some truly interesting sounds, and modify in real time. i only have two serious complaints with this board: 1) during play all patterns are locked in the same tempo unless you use the turn table effect and 2) there was no vocoder (this was a groove synth designed for dance/techno/club music right?) well i bought a warp factory ultimate vocoder for the second problem, and hope someone can email me if there is some way around the first.

Luis Miguel a part-time user from Spain writes:
First thing i did when i got the synth was read the manual basically. Then i took the keyboard and tried to get good patches tweakening knobs (be sure what you are doing with digital synths is transforming samples, not really creating new waveforms). It's hard to get good patches with this synth but after six months learning manual page to page and practising each function hundreds of times i have now a very good collection of professional quality patches. Believe me this synth is incredibly good sounding when good tweakening is done (i have a digital piano exactly identical than famous DX7 one and a brass sound that is very close to a Jupiter 6 brass). Add a step sequencer with high capacity and the rps section. You have a winner!!! If i have to change it, it would be for the XV-88 (cause i could get the same patches i have now)..

SandorB a hobbyist user from England writes:
Hobbyist today, part-time tomorrow, to get this thing to pay for itself. Even though I'm no keyboard player this machine will enable me to do it - I don't believe there's ever been a keyboard better equipped for performing the music of the day. Don't sell it, learn to use it - get up on that stage - you can do it.
