I have had this synth for nearly three years and i got it for 800 (you can get it cheaper now). For the money its very good value. It's got over 1500 sounds and you can get expansion boards. Most of the sounds are really good and you can nearly always find what your after. Editing can be tricky because of all the menues but if you use the software editer its pretty simple. The keyboard is light and fast, and it feels nice and solid. So its pretty good all round especially for live and midi work.

XP-30 is a great inexpensive board with pro features. very well made, like all Roland gear and great thickness of sound. The 4mb-5v memory cards can usually be found on ebay.

i bought an xp-30 just two weeks ago and find it very useful to my style. many cool patches and the category button is a helpful hand. also amazing techno sounds coz of the expansion board. i just have one problem. i'm having some problems using it with my Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 where i make my sequences. everytime i play at the keyboard the patches on my sound canvas sc-88 keeps changing and holds the notes always. it's much easier to connect a korg product to the computer using the old midi cable not the rsc-15at. can someone help me!! really need to use this baby with my cakewalk!

I play in a wedding band, i still didint get a chance to play wiht the XP 30 live, my last few keyboards were D20 and recently my friend lent me a Korg 01W/pro. Until now, i'm very very satisfied wiht the board, wiht it's extremely wiide range of patches, i dont need a sampler for it (personally)cuz i can basically find almost anything on it. A sequencer would be nice on it, but most bands use external sequencers anyways so it's not too big of a deal. The only thing that would not exactly bother me, but i think roland could have done a bit better is the modulation lever, and the keys could have been semi weighted, BUT those are very small details. Overall, i give this keyboard a 4.5 but i guess i'll round it off to 5 =)

ditto on that. just got an XP-30 last night for $500!!! (believe it!!) also trying to figure out how to use it with my MPC 2000. still have my roland XP-10, which worked very well with my MPC. i thought the XP-30 wouldn't be too much different, but the screens and controls are significantly different. just by looking at it, i can't tell what are the programs and what are the channels. and the manual only has about half a page explaining how to use an external midi device to control the keyboard. of course, this is only the first day, so i'm sure things will develop. but, i could definitely use some advice. as far as the sounds go, hoooooooowwwwwweeeeeee!!! ten x ten times better than the XP-10!!! the pianos sound more real, the basses sound deeper... this reminds me of when i got my first transformer robot!!! i could play all day!!!
