Great sound quality! much value for the money. Session and Orchestral expansion cards are really nice additions, the orchestral pads and solo instruments are so lovely, Violas, Cellos, Oboes, they really make you thrill, but also vintage synth lead, bass or pad sounds. I don't find Techno expansion as useful. The synth has only one main stereo out, and this makes it not very suitable for multitimbral operation. This is because the sounds are so rich that while producing you need to take each part into an audio track, just to apply eq and achieve that parts do not "kill" each other. Also editing is someway complicated unless you use a PC and the SoundDiver software included. Above all I find it very inspiring while playing, and even used just as a mere sound module with presets, I don't think you can get any better one.

This is my favorite live synth. Lot's of cool sounds and it's very easy to use. I give it a thumbs up. :)

i've had a jv 1080 for almost 5 years now, and nothing would make me trade it for something else. but suddenly, a moment arose, and i was invited to trade my beloved 1080 with a newer xp30. see, what i've been a bit frustrated about is not being able to take the 1080 "on the run" using just a computer for sequencing purposes.
this is not practical with a rack module; you eventually need to have a keyboard, and since the 1080 only has standard midi plugs, you also need a midi interface. after a few minutes, you've torn your whole home studio apart just to be able to take your sound source on the road.
but now, with a xp30, i will be able to go wherever i want to - and it's all included in one neat box - excellent, roland! the 1080 already was a perfect module, but now you've repackaged it into something even cooler. i don't mind about the outputs, since it's cheap and easy to add a jv-1010 or so if i need extra outputs.
thank you for the xp30. it's - truly - a dream come true. and the inclusion of the expansions doesn't hurt... i had techno, session, vintage and dance, so now i can install the vintage and dance expansions and still have even more sounds! because the xp also includes the orchestral card. it's fantastic. all fantastic.

An excellent machine. Endless possibilities in tailoring the sounds. The combination with 'real'instruments using harddisk recording are amazing. Especially the brass instruments are magnificent. I think i won't need something else for years. I also use a SC-88Pro in addition. It's addictive.

I've had my xp-30 for nine months now and I still can't take my hands off of it. It has a wonderful arp. and good sounds. The easy to use interface helped me to figure out how to use most of it by myself. With numerous sounds and the ability to make new sound by combining others and tweaking the the filters, sound waves, and envelopes gives an endless of possibilities. The only things I have a problem with is the effects, which suck, and the piano sounds. The effects can't be tailored as good as my sequencer. The piano sounds are not thick enough, they sound puny. Over all the xp-30 kicks ass compared to the qs6.1 which i was going to buy.
I'm also looking for a good drum machine that has good fat bass and some analog synth capabilities, e-mail me for suggestions
