I bought this synth a month ago. Xp-30 is a very decent keyboard, but I'm not that crazy about its sound. Anyway, does anybody know how much sample rom it have? It is supposed to have 32MB physical rom, which contain 64MB compressed data(jv1080 16 + session 16 + orch 16 + techno 16). However, I heard that Roland further compressed the data so that the actual physical rom is less than 32MB. The rumor may be wrong, but I am curious why Roland didn't mention the sample rom size of xp-30 in the manual. Is Roland hiding something?

I have owned this pup for about 8 months now and love it. My only problem with it is the "64 Voice Polyphony". I don't really get 64 voices from it but rather half that. Other than that, it makes a good board for any genre. If you have more time than money, then this is a good board. If you run a professional studio and time is of the essence, I would look for something with more EFX instead of just one. To all the boo-hooers out there remember one thing, We are all Superstars headed to fame and fortune and our Reviews are our perception of how good our experience lets us to believe. Hint: look at the overall rating and judge for yourself.

I just got a used Xp-30 and compared it to the QS6.1 I was previously interested in. The one thing that I noticed was the directness of the controls on the Xp, versus paging thru menus for the Alesis in order to get filter controls easily. Alesis's patch finder is easier IMHO, but Roland has much more sounds. I like Alesis's kb better, but there is that "vibrato" effect on Roland's. All in all, I ended up with the Xp30 (same price essentially as new QS6.1) due to its resonance filters, which the 6.1 lacks. Also, the sounddiver software that comes with it makes editing on the computer really easy, at least for someone who is more computer savvy then musical. In any case, sounds good, nice layout. Solid construction.

XP30 HAS EVERYTHINK I WAS LOOKING FOR. I JUST SOLD MY MC505 DO TO LIMITED USE(EXPANDABLITY).BEFORE I BOUGHT XP30 I LOOKED AT JV1080,2080 AND THEN I FOUND XP30.RIGHT AWAY I EXCLUDED 1080 BUT MY FINAL CHOICE WAS XP30.2080 HAS MORE EFX AND OUT'S I STILL THINK THAT XP30 IS BETTER VALUE FOR HOBBY MUSIC STUDIO.THE SOUNDS ARE FANTACTIC (LOTS OF PADS) AND THEY SOUND JUST AS GOOD AS MY KORG Z1 THAT COST ME TWICE THE PRICE OF XP30.I CAN'T COMMENT ON FULL POTENTIAL OF XP30 BECOUSE I BOUGTH IT 2 DAYS AGE.BUT I'M VERY IMPREST SO FAR. I ALWAYS HAVE BEEN BIG FAN OF KORG BUT NOW I DON'T KNOW?

XP-30 also kicks TRITON's gig butt at synthesizing power and editing capabilities. XP-30 is better synth.
