Robert a professional user from USA writes:
I purchased the Roland XP-30 not for the sounds, but for the built in serial MIDI interface. I wanted to use the interface with my laptop to write music as I travel. However, even after a lengthy phone call to ROLAND about the serial drivers where the technician states Im a MAC man myself! there has been no success with the interface working on 95 or 98. Windows NT was the only OS where MIDI will send and receive successfully from the keyboard to Cakewalk Pro Audio 8. Overall, I will enjoy the new hardware for a month or two.

Matt Gregory a hobbyist user from usa writes:
Love it! Sounds great! Easy to use and program (taking into account the fact that all digital synths are a bitch to program :) So many sounds it makes me want to puke! The keyboard is nice, the action is tight (not semi-weighted though, despite what some of the literature says) and the aftertouch is a lot better than my Yamaha AN1x. Lots of ways to play multiple patches. The arpeggiator is nice and very configurable, but I don't understand why each patch doesn't have its own arp settings. The +/- octave buttons are great. I love how this thing is laid out. The lights built into the buttons is a great feature. The modulation controller is spring loaded, which I hate but maybe I will like it once I get used to it. It has 4 sliders to use for modulation anyway. If you want a keyboard that can cover the whole spectrum of synth and keyboard sounds, this one is a great deal! (at the moment, anyway 2-Oct-99 :)

Ingo a hobbyist user from Sweden writes:
The XP30 isnt aimed directly at the dance market. Sure it contains he techno expansion, but also a lot of other good sounds. The sound engine is about the same as the acclaimed JV1080/2080 modules. Dont put too much emphasis on any demo songs, as they dont reflect the synths capabilities...
