The XP-50 is the single most irritating piece of equipment I've ever used. I traded mine in for a Korg N364. The XP-50 sounds are very good, they cover all the main bases. The rest of the XP-50 pissed me off to no end. The sequencer was far from intuitive, so I gave up trying to use it. Then I had problems with MIDI feedback loops, not syncing to my MPC 3000, etc. I had the xp-50 for 2 months and I created 1, yes 1 tune with it, that's how frustrating it was. I'm going to get the JV-1080 instead because I did like the sounds.

Great synth engine, terrible keys, difficult sequencer and flimsy case. When I had it new I was upset that this was the best thing Roland had to offer beyond the JV1080.

Pay a bit more if you want the 1080 engine and get the XP60 or XP80 which are built better and have better user interfaces. Had I known I would have waited the nine months or so before they came out.

Dont get me wrong, the XP50 sounds very good but there are better deals on the used market. Check out Yamaha's SY85 as an alternative....awesome sample playback board. Yamaha's SY77 was another kick ass board that was a deep as you wanted to go assuming you wanted high quality digital synth oriented sounds.

Happy music making to those with the XP50, in spite of my listing of shortcomings it's a useful board. :)

After playing around with the board for a few hour, I fell in love with it. Great tones and after touch.the sdequencer is easy to use especially when playing back standard midi files. It surely serpasses the 01\W and the T3 in every way.
