This is the worst board I've ever owned!!! You can't learn how to use it 'cause the manual (unlike Ensoniq) SUCKS!!!!!! I will say the sounds are real good ,and so are the effects, but half of the sounds leave you scraching you're head , thinking what would I ever use that for , let alone using effects on it!I If you are going to write music on this keyboard , you better have a wild imagination! This is the worst $1,200 I've ever spent! The reviews I read made this thing sound like a GOD sent! But from what I've seen those "GREAT" sounds don't mean a thing if you can't put them to good use!!! (It's pretty bad when Roland has to sell a video to aid they're manual to teach you the BASICS!!!!)!!!!!

Nathan Cairo a hobbyist user from The Netherlands writes:
This is an excellent peace of work. Everything about this machine

is just great. In stead of naming all of the great things, I'll

just mention the only downside of the XP-50: the sequencer. The

sequencer is o.k., but the downside of this function, is that it

makes the synth much more expensive than it should be. That's

why I recommend the Roland JV1080 or the JV2080 for musicians

who would like to have the same sound generator, but without the

sequencer (and without keys, offcourse).

Jason M Glover a hobbyist user from USA writes:
The 50 was my first "real" synth. I love it....it's my baby. I do have a few problems with it, but no synth is perfect. I have TONS of original sounds at my finger-tips....it's beautiful! Forget the Korg N364, the 50 is the real deal...It's mine for life...

scotty a hobbyist user from united states of capitalism writes:
This was my choice of the store and it really kicked my roommates new

yamaha to shreds. After a few weeks you can tweek the sequencer into

a little devil of a workstation - using the rps function you can trigger

individual sequence loops and re-mix (sort of) your compositions in

realtime. The vintage synth expansion board I bought gave me the sounds this

thing ached for - better bass better bass and more analogish pads.

Just dont get it updated to new OS if they cant do it in store...

mine was at roland in cali for a two months. The dance board is now unavailable due to copyright issues, but it wasnt

worth the money anyways. The XP80 has at least twice the sequencer

memory so if this is your standalone instrument get the 80. I hear the guy with the Cure uses it too. - If I worked at Roland - I would integrate sampling into their

workstations and make the screen 320x240 like the new PDAs. The

interface on this is fine, but orange gets trying after 12 hours or

so. Their is a midi problem too. -if the lfos of your sounds become volumous the lfos on your drums

may trigger wrong and your hihat will sounds like a tin can.

Sergey Sokolov (SergXp50 in IRC) a part time user from Russia writes:
XP's great, I especially enjoy it's synth capabilities - ring modulator,

booster, sequential filter combination. XP's filters are the BEST among

digitals as for 1996, the resonance can scream and whistle! Expansion boards

are cool, especially "Dance" (which production was cancelled) and

"Drums and Bass" (not "Drums'n'Bass"-style) which has perfect

drums samples and very good basses. Check my page midi.mosbusiness.ru
