Nothing Roland has made since the Juno series compares to those bass sounds! Get a pg-300 to really dig into the sonic capabilties. Membrane control panel is cheesy. As is the Alpha dial. But once you midi it to a velocity sens. controller and tweak the resonance on a filter sweep, Watch out! Sounds awesome thru a phaser type effect with some reverb. Have had my Ju-1 since new,(1984) no problems at all. Dont forget a PG-300! ( if you can find one)

Bought an Alpha Juno in 1996 without instruction book, just about mastered it now. You dont need any add-ons, they detract from its unique sound.

got one for $150.really easy to use, but you must be patient.especially if you do not have the PG, like myself.i wonder if the knobby or slidemate would be a better/cheaper alternative.this thing sounds pretty fucking good for $150. basic, but it gets the job done. like the parameter setup, envelope and such.resonance is nice, makes good acid sounds, although most of the ones i've come up with see somewhat unstable and not very clean.but it is unique.really evil bass, and its good at more than just synthy stuff. good for dub, drum n' bass, acoustic sounds, pads good also...very good.some pads i make remind me of zombie movie sounds, good shit. cheap, sounds good, easy to use, alpha dial is cheesy, makes the hoover and alot of other sucky sounds, fun stuff.

You were right, the PG-300 cost more than the synth itself ($235 for PG-300, $150 for Juno). But with this editing power... oh my god, I can make the sickest leads and hoovers and god-knows-what else... I love this it is by far my favorite piece of gear. If you are making drum and bass (as I am) look seriously at one of these, even if you dont want to use the most rinsed d&b sound in the world (hoover), it is still a powerful grungy and... well... evil synth!

I just got ahold of a mint condition juno-1 for $150 (it was a steal) and I really love this unit. I bought it for the hoovesr, but it has so many phat sounds... really eerie pads, very realistic strings, and a tambourine that i really dig, among others. Im still waiting on a PG-300 so I can dive into editing it, but overall it is already a welcome addition to my setup.
