Ffffiiilllttteeerrrssswwweeepppsssss. The kind of sweeps you can start before going to sleep and wake up to in the morning. I've never encountered a keyboard that can do it better. I think the AJ-1 doesn't deserve the bad rap it frequently gets (If you want the sound of a 106, go buy a 106!). Sure, there aren't any knobs or sliders, but the real-time editing parameters are just as easy to use with the "alpha wheel". Maybe it's because I come from the additive synthesis school of programming, but even without the PG-300, editing patches is a snap if you're willing to turn on 2% of your brain. The resonant filter is incredible. The chord memory can take a sweet strings patch and make it into a monophonic bitch from hell. It can also be quite a bass monster.

I was in a pawn shop in New Mexico fooled around with it and heard something resembling early Laurie Anderson and bought it on the spot; boy was that a great move.

Pressing the Brilliance and turning the fly wheel creates some psychedelic transformations, I also have the setting I created for a fine electric Sitar.

It got me started.

Lovely synth, very skilled for "full" basses. If U want something really aggressive, you'll have to process further its sound. Easy to carry for the holidays, You can even drop beer on the panel. Able to create extremely fat sounds if you spend some time programming. Very dynamic triggering of the sounds, like most analogs. I really love it for its "smootheness". I will NEVER sell it.

Nice except for one thing - The filter won't self oscillate so you can't get those really wacky sounds.
