i am very much in love with the uniqueness of the 303 - i use it with a turntable, an ER-1 and it's little sister, miss tweek-bleep EA-1. while i don"t get much use out of the mc's baselines, a few little backgroundsamples of it are worth a ton for me. as it really is a bitch to get sth programmed i only use it in live-sessions, me and a stud and some friends and a bud. the easy quick accessability of the ER-1....alright, this is about the groovebox now, i understand. so, it was that box that made me even start with anyhting techno, being just a lover for the music a year ago. the 303 made me want to have a backup for it's sounds, because it is not only a great tool but one that makes a great start in everybodys life who just wants to get started, wants to see if it is fun to hang out and make elektronic music sounds. for beginners, as i consider myself to be one ( a beginner is after all the most ambitious, assiduous and fresh state of mind one could possibly be in ) the 303 is a great tool, and as it was said a while ago, the "stoner tool" is just a great way to decide if it is all your thing or if you should save your money to go to raves and visit the loveparade in germany, the thunderdome in rotterdam. a loving hug to all the real "appreciaters" of techno music, to the people who know what the gift of music means to their life. and to people who diss that, and think it is all about gear and superiority by knowledge/appearance/ownership, a hug for you too, for you are lost in it and will one day be waking up, crying. that one goes out to YOU, claimers. this is about emotions transformed through invisible waves of varying amplitude/frequency....if you aren't on this train, but if you think you should love the machines instead of the produce - alright, diss it once, diss it good, and then be done with it. STOP calling yourself a child in front of so many blessed musiclovers ( but is sure is nice to see so many people talk about you. isn"t it, micromind? ). tru peace to y'all!!

im currently using an er-1, sp-808 ex (not the grooovegear), tr-707, juno 106, and an ea-1. i started on an mc-303. it drove me insane to compose on, but now im wishing that i still had it, there are some useful sounds on it and a great arpeggerator. it is ridiculous to think that you can compose a whole song/track on a groovebox alone. im also a dj and incorporate my live pa into my sets. let me say that the electribe series is definitely gods gift to those of us who are not rich pansies and cant afford a 909, 808, and a 303, never mind the fact that those boxes are wwwwwaaayyy outdated. if you are considering getting into production, give korg the buisness, the only useful piece of gear roland makes is the new 808. the 505 and 307 suck equally, after all, they arent analog, how do you tweak a digital signal?

I use the MC-303 and the MC-505 in my studio and they are both indespensable to me. They are major workhorses & very creative tools.
ps--I also have a roomful of other gear to use, but these boxes get lots of use!!

MC-303 is the best possible start into dance music. The MC-505 is also a very convincing studio in a box and I have both.
As a result of experimenting with these 'toys' I now run a pro studio here in HK. Admittidly both MC's don't get much use; but they got me to where I am now.
If you think they both suck - then what the hell... bugger off & write a song about it. If you like them; then leave a URL & show folks how wrong they are.

so what's the deal with these children talking shit about real users without giving us a name? afraid that someone will email you with legitimate reasons for slamming this piece of crap? ROLAND TOOK MY MONEY, SO I AM JUSTIFIED IN TELLING PEOPLE THAT THIS BOX SUCKS FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS: 1. It lacks sufficient internal memory, 2. it's sounds are just as weak as any radio shack keyboard, 3. the menus are not comprehensive or user friendly, 4. it is overpriced, 5. it doesn't do much for dj's, 6. from what i've read here, MIDI sux. So, what's the point of including a TB-303 bass kit if this box cannot emulate the TB-303? to make one think that they're getting more than a handful of synths in one little package!!! before you buy one, try it out. the marketplace is flooded with this dreaded box, chances are that you can find someone in your hood that has one. play around with it and see how long it takes to get tired of this shitbox303. then check out yamaha's rm1x.
