The MC-303 is a great tool for those who know how to use it. The arepeggiator alone is really very worthwhile with over 34 different styles to choose from. Its a deep machine and it takes time to get to know it. Many people who are dissin this product simply dont understand it. Anybody who love to jam, will love this MC-303. Its a real jammin machine, but you will need to read the manual. The video is also an excellent help with understanding the extensive creative features this machine has. And to quote someone previously----a good craftsman never blames his tools.........is it my guitars fault that I dont sound like Carlos Santana?

this thing is the biggest piece of shit ive ever had the misfortune of owning. It has an absolutely horrible midi implementation that makes it near impossible to use as a sound module alongside other equipment running off of an external sequencer, and an external sequencer is what you will want to use if you plan on doing any serious amount of music with it since it only provides 64 (i think) user programable patterns, and it runs out of memory halfway through them.. but the best part is that instead of just telling you it is out of memory it compresses your entire sequence and just totally ruins it. that has happened to me so many times its not even funny. the sounds on it (aside from the drums) are extremely cheesy and thin, and the "realtime knobs" are nothing more than cosmetics since they dont control anything really useful... the filter sounds like shit and lags when you turn the knob, youve actually got to pre-turn it to compensate for the lag. The interface makes doing even the simplest task a chore involving an average of i would say 5 or 6 button pushes. everything is hidden in some bizarre submenu. I could go on and on about how horrible this thing is. i feel sorry for anyone who is getting into electronic music and buys one of these, as it truely is not a good synthesizer.. in fact i wouldnt even call this a synthesizer. this thing is geared toward beginners at techno. if you want to make techno buy a cheap analog synth, a drum machine with a 909 kit and a midi cable. it may cost a little more but the music you will make will be infinately more expressive, more original, more involved and more of a part of you. There is a reason these things only cost 300$. The roland mc-303 is a disgrace to the word synthesizer.

i bought this machine when it came out for a price of 990 DM (nearly 480$(I think) and when I heard the demo songs I thought only 'Great'; BUT when I tried to use it realy, I get bored by the fake-realtime controllers!!! Later I wanted to use it only as sound- module, but Hardcore-Basedrum where over; then a friend of mine asked me, if I can leave it for some weeks to him for trying to use it serious. in this time I did not realy recognize that it is not in my studio... when I got it back, I realy tried hard to use it also serious, but I didn�t found more out than it only is a great DRUMMODULE nothing more AND nothiung less. In december 2000 the other sounds/tones started to sound not longer so loud as when it was new (can someone explain me this mystery!??). I only can say the following things: I don�t care if Fatboy Slim (although I�m a fan of him) or Madonna or some Gabber-stars can use this machine, in the average, they used the great drums, the cool arpeggiator & some FX-Sounds or bass, so better spend your money on greater things (also from Roland), but in my opinion these grooveboxes are made for semi-liveacts & DJs, but not to realy use in Dance- Techno-House-music (hear the patterns (not the demosongs) and recognize how awful they are!); better buy an EMU-Orbit if you just search for cool Dance/Techno(or whatever)-Sounds!!!

Awesome machine for the money!! Powerful tool to have in any arsenal. Prices for the used mc-303s are actually going up, so if you want one, now is a great time to snatch one.

To all you complainers... The MC-303 is for people with a little IQ It is not an easy first minute up and go synth But if you take your time you will find out that it will do almost everything. Now, what did you want ? 10,000 synthesizers in one ? Come on It is a groove box and that is enough. If you want more, get a job and buy more synths. I have the Korg Electribe series and it is cool but the roland gives you all the drums and more plus filters and envelopes 28 notes poly synths and it act as a midi module.. Is that not enough for you ? OK, it is a little hard to learn compare to a EA-1 or ER-1 etc but it does a lot more ! So, sit down for few days, Learn all the little details and make music.
