MC-303 IS EXCELLENT FOR UNDERSTANDING THE WORLD OF MIDI, AND SEQUENCING. STRICTLY THAT ONLY. THE MEMORY IS EXTREMELY LIMITED, IF YOU GET BELOW 13 PERCENT OF MEMORY FREE, MINE LOCKS UP.THAT SHOULD TELL YOU ABOUT THE QUALITY. TONS OF STUFF TO WORK WITH, AND OH YEAH, FATBOY SLIM MIGHT USE IT, BUT HE SUCKS SALTY MONKEY TESTICLES WITH MOST DJ'S OUT THERE. DONT BUY IT. IF YOU WANT QUALITY YOU GO WITH SEPERATE COMPONENTS, ANALOG STYLE.

Tiz-Bone, I agree that this box is for beginners, definitely a topnotch learning tool for the basics...plus it's fun to use. But as for the 505 and 307 as advanced musician tools?! First of all, a musician makes music, not sounds. I think you are referring to an advanced producer. Next, I'm sorry but the 505 and 307 are just bigger toys for bigger boys. Sure you can 'groove' and stuff with more sounds, but you are NOT gonna have a better synth engine, and you ain't gonna make much more usable sounds. With all the quality VA's like Virus and Nord racks that sell for significantly less than POS 505's, I can't see shellin out $1000 on a shitty 'groove' box. If you're a serious producer, you get a serious tool - simple as that.

I dont care what anyone says, if this machine is used by FAT BOY SLIM and he can produce some of the fattest dance tracks, get artist of the year in 1999 using just the Mc303,Atari ST,and an Akai S 950.This fuckin thing gets my vote!!!!

The MC-303 is GREAT for beginners... let me repeat, it is great for BEGINNERS.
I have had my 303 for some two years now, and I find myself getting bored of it...but that's why Roland made the 307 and 505. These two boxes are for more advanced musicians. People that find no use of the 303 should go out and purchase either the 307 or the 505.
Back to the 303, the memory bank is way too limited. I have created about 15 songs, and I can not create more without resorting to my computer. Sounds are now getting tiresome.
On the bright side...it has lots of cool shit to fuck around with: cutoff, resonance, LFO, ARPEGGIOS which are fucking AWESOME!!!, envelope, reverb, delay, and flanger which I don't use but it's there if you like.
Overall, it's a decent box for a decent price: $400 American beans. It's extremely EASY to use, and it has lots of fun stuff to play around with.
For beginners, I give it a 5. For the advanced, I give it a 3.
Overall, a 4.

This little box was fun at first, but if you want to make professional music it's not a good tool. You get much for your money but when you get tired of the sounds you get tired of the box. It's a good tool if you want to make techno/trance fast and easy although it's very limited. The filters are not so great... the sounds doesn't develope as good as it should. Anyway I wouldn't recomend pro-users to buy this becouse it's so limited, but if you want a box that'll do anything for you (drums, synths, seq) this is the thing for you.
