One of the coolest things about the MC-303 is when you set up a pattern and mute about 5 parts very selectively. Many times what you end up with is a really nice simple 3-part pattern. From there, I use my other gear to add more cool parts and create a wonderful rhythm to work with. Ive been using the MC-303 with several other pieces of equipment and have found it invaluable. It really helps me get started on building some very wild music piece by piece. Im using it now in my studio for about 10 months and could not part with it. I dont know if I ever will. Its just too much fun to make music with this thing. I like it a lot. Its not my favorite unit, but it is very very useful. It helps me get thru "writers block" over and over again. Anything that does that for me stays. Thats my litmus test. If it helps, keep it, if not dump it. PEACE - keep makin' that sexy music!!!

YES REV JS!!! YES YES YES--I couldnt agree more!! I love my MC-303 and I also have tons of gear too. You have made many good points about gear!! The MC-303 is an amazing device and I hope you get one too. You wont be disappointed. Its all about your attitude and yours is GREAT. The MC-303 is a cool drum machine and also has a really nice arpegiator too. I have a lot of fun with mine. It is a creative trigger device. Gives me ideas every time I turn it on. I love gear that people want to slam. Its usually the best out there.

big ol' box of clches! it would'nt be bad if it had normal midi functions,but its not the case,i hope they made improvements on the 307! and btw,MICRO,cool down a little,this box wont bring the end of the world... if so,sorry,i wasnt aware. ciao!

so, i see a lot of bad reviews happening here and i thought i should throw in my two cents...anyway, this thing is great for noises. god help you if you want to use it for the drums, but some of the sounds just have to be discovered on this thing. and that's the trick...*finding* the sounds. this thing has KNOBS, use them! and not only for realtime, i mean fuck with the sounds on there and you'll be surprised. don't use this as a primary unit, just throw it in for some subtle things here and there. i know at first glance/use it seems like a fisher-price toy, but after selling mine a while ago i wish i had it back. the sequencer is pretty good and if it only had MIDI thru it would be ten times better. ah well...when they get cheap i'm getting another one. for what it's worth, i make noisy industrial music...so i'm recommending this to rivets and those who are into the crunchier side of things.

Well, I just got mine two nights so I'm still figuring out how to use the thing, but these are my general thoughts on it. This thing is nice as a drum machine, has great drum sounds and can make some very nice beats (great for drum n' bass, trip hop, big beat, etc.), but the sounds or "tones" are just too dated. There are a number that are usuable and sound good (mainly the pads), but just too many of them suck. Another downside is that the preset patterns are quite awful too, they're a few that are really good but since the people at Roland programmed 'em...not the greatest intepreation of modern dance music. However, this thing has great realtime controlling, can do some great things with drums and would just jam in live performance due to the part muting. If you're gonna get it, get it second-hand, but never new, not worth the $500 some.
