Pretty solid little machine, learning it takes virtually no time, even without experience. But since I already own a Kork EM-1, it took me about an hour to get the basics down, such as step recording drum rythms and basslines. All I've got to say is this machine is best used for the drums, and maybe some basslines. But my Korg EM-1 handles the synths, such as melodies and what not. I recommend the 909 and 808 rythm kits that are included, they're all laid out and easy to use on the step keys. Plus, you can use some acid basslines for your tracks because it includes some tb 303 acid tones. This machine is better used for live performances rather than production. Track productions are better left for a good software program such as Rebirth or Malstrum.

very robust peice of equipment. i think the sounds are nice. and are usable

just got my third one in the last 3 years. i keep selling it cuz i think i wont need it and then have to get another one cuz I love the drums in there and i miss em. very cool device for sure especially if you like kick ass drums. dont try to do everything with just a mc303, but if you want killer drums this baby has em. cant go wrong with those roland drums. they never ever go out of style. you can count on that!!!!! i have plenty other drum boxes, but this one is special. it lives forever in the drum box zone.

The MC-303 wil never be more than a toy for DJs and aspiring dance heads. When I bought one the timing was sloppy and I could never get the attack of the kick drum consistent, even with software upgrades. I eneded up giving it to a friend. My advice is to give the SH-32 a listen, as a drum machine it is a much better performer, plus you can actually experiment and make your own sounds, instead it becoming obsolete like the rest of Rolands "Groove" range.

Great little box not without drawbacks. Midi implementation is useless and it does strange things like forgetting assigned effect parameters on each part when you change pattern. However it is fun to use and a good scratchpad for ideas. If your a beginner and debating on getting one, i'd say do it. I wont ever sell mine. Just know that the sounds are very dated and if it wasnt for this, I'd give it a 5
