I wrote some comments a while ago while I was still fathoming this instrument. After coming to terms with step sequencing and all the midi features, I'm really happy I picked it up.

Yes, a lot of the sounds are pretty boring, but it is a great portable notepad for coming up with new ideas wherever you are - try taking your computer on holidays with you!

The other thing to remember is that once you have some good beats and melodies laid down, you can use one of the midi channels to trigger a sampler or an outboard module from some more interesting sounds.

The other thing is that the basic display is actually very liberating - rather than looking at the computer screen all the time, you can be more intuitive in mixing up a track by using the MC-303 as your master sequencer.

Once again, this won't give you a hit song 10-minutes out of the box, but take some time to get to dig into this box and you'll be surprised what you can do.

I love the MC-303 for what it is and what it does. For the amount I paid ($250) its really a good deal. I have found the manual to be surprisingly excellent and very useable. This machine is a lot of fun, some like it, some dont, but who cares? Just play the beat and enjoy the moment.
