For me, the only thing I have is the 303 and my pc. A friend suggested I get one when I started showing interest in writing electronic music. I was told it would be the best tool to learn on for beginners. And she was right. It's the best "all-rounder" midi sequencer. I have learnt a LOT on it, and it's also given me a grounding on sequencing that I can now apply to midi software programs, etc. I've had it for 2 years now and am still discovering new distortions of sounds! For anyone starting out, I highly recommend purchasing the MC-303 because it's cheap and makes learning to write electronic music less overwhelming and confusing.

i bought it brand new,it really disappointed on some aspects but others could make me smile.well it's inspired someone to play music,it's healthy to let more ppl dig into the electronic music if they're serious.and also its not so healthy if they only think its a easy and cool toys to play w/ and add some presets in front a dj mixing desk,its really ridiculous,(yes,i really saw a disco dj to insert some presets of mc303 to the gap of his dj mix but unfortunately he went out off his beats and tempo and he still expressed so cool and we witnessed his TALENT).well.i know not every dj the same and there're many new and real talents out there everywhere.and i should say,a piece of gear w/ limited memory for saving user's patch/patterns like mc303,how creative can we make on this alone??ok,maybe just the mute/unmuted of different is the only art of modern music.don't get me wrong,i'm also into techno,trance,electronic,and could we be more creative than this??return to mc303,sound-wise,the drums are ok,it replicate the basic tones of its older drum machines from roland,tho not so deep enough(oh,yes,for the price like this,what else can i ask for more?i say for u...)and about the synth parts,it really terrible,i think the same class cs1x or an200 can easily blow it away,add effects?outboards?how many audio outs it got?overdubbing and adding efx?okay,we got time after 9-5 work..i'd suggest the quasimidi 309 more than this.

I just want to thank the mc 303 for getting me and my friends back into composing, after a five year break from it all. My Trusty Jx-3p and rythym 55 and fostex recorder had been sitting in a cupboard for years. I went to a friends house about two and a half years ago,and he had just bought an mc303. We mucked around on it a lot, and it re-inspired us to get back into music. Now we have fully kitted home 'project' studio's, and happily spend 7+ hours a day writing music. But no mc303 anymore. It served its purpose for us, in a great way. It taught us the basics, and it sounded amazing at the time. Let's face it, the further we delve into music, the more discerning we get. Those who were fortunate enough to start when great analogue gear (which is often what this poor digital machine gets compared to) was much more accessible and affordable, will no doubt cane the MC303 for not sounding the same.
Once again, thanks MC303 for inspiring us back into the game!

i hate it and talk shit about it because of its disgusting midi and its buggy as fuck memory.. ive only used one of them so it might have just been a bug in the one i had but i used it a lot and it just sucked ass, it was good for doing beats on the fly but it was way too unstable to ever use as anything more than a temporary experiment sequencer, most people that buy one are new to electronic music and i just feel that this is a horrible way to enter the world of synths. if roland would have spent just a little more time on the design of it mabye it wouldnt be as hated as it is, but as it stands i would never ever get one again. spend a little extra and get an ea-1 and a cheap drum machine...

I have had this nifty little box for a while now and I have to say I am pretty pleased with it. First of all, I really like the drum kits. That is mainly what I use it for now. I recently got a new effects processor (peavey deltaefx 5/5!!!) and have aquired a new feeling for the synth sounds. Even though it has a delay/reverb and flanger/chorus built in, they are kinda cheezy. but now that I have much more powerful effects to put on top of the sound, it has become more lively and original. However there are some sound that are really cool without any effects. But this is definatly a toy compared to some other machines I have played with (nord lead2, access virus, gotta love thoes beasts) but for someone who dosent want to dish out the $900+ for a monster synth, this is a simple box. I payed about $300 for mine and am pleased with it. On the negtive side, the only onboard way to change the sounds is through the cuttoff & frequency knobs along with the cheesy effects. So basicly you are stuck with the sounds you are given.
Over all, I like the drums and some of the sounds, but dont like the limited sound editing so I give it a 4/5.
