Overall built quality ain�t very good but a synth with that sound can get away with almost anything. Took some time to get the hang of because of it�s complex routing capabilities but it is very rewarding. Some brilliant demos are available at

The Pro-One was my first synthesizer. I bought it almost one year ago. The keyboard was horrid(mine was membrane), no fun to play on. The built in sequencer made up for this a little. The build quality on this synth is very poor, I was not impressed. However the sound was great. I wish this thing had the build quality of the x0x stuff, it would be much better off if it did. I sold mine recently, the fact that its pre-midi,poor build quality, and has the worst keyboard ever made(casio sk-1's have better keyboards) outweighed the sound it produced. If your really after the PRO-ONE sound then get this machine, if not then you might want to consider buying something else.

The Pro-One was my first synthesizer ever. I bought one when they first came out in 1981. It took me a while to ever get familiar with all the controls on this unit. But, without a doubt the Pro-One has some of the fatest analog sounds on earth! Only two drawbacks are that it was only monophonic and doesn't have midi, although you can trigger programmed sequences through its gate on the back.

The problem with this synth is that it was obviously created by unearthly visitors with many, many more hands than we humans posess. It has so many possibilities that a licence should almost be required to wield firepower of this sort. But on to the sound... Ripper! If you can't make this synth sound good than you need to quit playing synths. It's somewhere in between (and above!) a moog and a roland SH-? Definitely one of the best.

Better yet, chain it via the gate on a novation bass station via the gate/cv jack, use that triigger out of the 606 to run a juno6 arppegio, and viola, bass and melody in one fatal swoop.
My pro one keyboard sucks ducks, but... it's so nice sounding I couldn't possibly ever care, they're really light for an analog too, probably due to the advent of LSI (large scale integration), this really came into play in the late 70's early 80's and this synth seems to have been built with that in mind. Open it up, it's not a mess like a moog or worse an arp quadra, it's a clean nice design -- sequential cheaped out on the keyboards (bastards!), but the controls are top notch, mine feel pretty tactile after almost 20 years so it can't be that bad. Be careful when gigging, the power supply can come dislodged in older models and cause you frightful problems -- be warned be gentle with your p1. Excellent mono synth, my personal fave mono until the Korg prophecy came out. Don't pay over $400 for one--- seriously! And wine country uhm, the parts aren't gold plated ya know... sheesh...
