just got a pro1, and i must admit i was very surprised by the sounds this thing kicks out, loads of people have wittered on about the keyboard on this, i dont know why mine has a nice feel to it, better than the k4 which i have also owned. either there was a bad batch of pro1's or the people who moan about it are used to perfection(get real guys it aint that bad) i've owned a moog source and had a lot of time on a minmoog and this baby sounds as good as both if not better on some counts, certainly better at sound fx than either of the moogs. the bass sounds are awesome, the leads are ok if a bit thin at times. i'm glad i bought it, i wont be selling this baby any time soon. i'll give it a 4/5 mainly because i have to leave it so long to warm up, but this aint so bad.

I once had an affliction, and then I got a Pro One. My affliction, so I thought, was that I had no older analog synths that I could get all those warm lovley analog sounds from. Then, as I said I got a Pro One. It had been at least a decade since I had a totaly progammable synth. What I had forgoten was that it is a total pain in the ass to constantly progam to get a diffrent voice and nothing on the fly. I believe, if memory serves, that is why the damn things are relics from the past....I'm sooooo glad I got rid of the damn thing and decided to join the 21st century....do yourself a favor, if you want analog and sounds on the fly go with the moog little fatty and quit paying too much for crap that no one wants to fix....

I read the reviews on this synth before I bought one and knew that the keyboard was bad... but I never expected it to be this bad. It's was almost enough to make me want to sell it right away!
The knobs are also quite sensitive to the touch and the oscillators seem to go out of tune quite easily if the synth is bumped or jolted. This may be only the case with mine... but, the knobs are not very friendly to tweak live, they feel very brittle.
Aside from the major hardware/build quality issues, I agree that the synth itself is amazing... musically, it's one of the best I've ever used!
I really like the user trim feature that allows for easy callibration! My unit also only takes about 5 mins to warm-up and stay in tune. The synth is very light and make transport very easy!
The many hardware problems leave me at a loss on what to give this synth. Strictly speaking on a live performance basis, this synth gets a 3/5. For studio use I'd give it a 5/5 since you have time to fiddle with it and deal with any problems that arise. Therefore I'll give it a 4/5.

keyboard action isn´t quite as horrible as it´s often made out to be, it´s just that the key action produces a relatively loud plasticky klick. but compared to other monosynths it´s really adequate. the build quality is flimsier than a comparable moog but the pots are soft and nice to twiddle. the modulation matrix is excellent and many more sounds than on a minimoog, prodigy et al are possible. i personally love the slightly leaner sound - it mixes well. a big plus is the weight (or lack thereof). very intuitive panel layout. they are still better value than moogs and easier to cart around for session work.

Excellent analog. Similar sound quality to a Moog, though a different character and more options for the same or less money.
The Sequential sound is sharper, tighter, more aggressive and leaner than a Moog's warmer, thicker sound, but that keeps it sounding very contemporary in any application.
One of it's advantages is the fact that CV and gate are already available, making sequencing very easy and imediate; again, very easy to integrate into today's music, and when used with sequencer, any issues related to the keyboard are moot.
