This is the synth to get, if you can get one. Everyone is waking up to what a beast it is, and now can't find one because they have been discontinued. It do any sound you like. Highly programmable, just get the free really good editor. Oh yea, you can ovewrite the factory presets(you can restore them later if you like) You can also perform diags on it to make sure all is ok.

Great Synth!! No doubts!! I own many types and this puppy is going to stay in my set-up. Some of the phattest sounds out there. If you can find one, get it, you cannot lose on this one.

The plug in AN board actually isn't the same as an AN1X. It is only 5 voice polyphonic and I heard it is modeled after the Sequential Circuits sound. If so, this board would cover Nord Lead type sounds, which the AN1X can't really cover. 5 out of 5 for what the AN1X is capable of and for the price.

Now the An1x is available as a plugin card for new yamaha synths for under $300 USD. (A smart move by yammy - they have a DX7 card too..cool!) Wouldn't be surprised if Roland did the same thing. - Would be awesome to have a D-50 on an expansion card and other vintage Roland gear.
Still, I needed a keyboard to drive my rack gear and sequencer and the An1x is a great synth any way you slice it. Definitely no regrets and was worth every penny.
