Bought it with large discount (50% of the price). Simply couldn't let go this offer. It was with the last supplies in the Netherlands and it came from Germany.
Anyway I am extremly pleased with this synth. There are so many sonic building blocks. Many filters (6 types), many lfo's The result is a FAT sounding machine which gives you an enourmus sonic pallets. I use it with my CS1x and it is a perfect companion of my blue machine.

(Best Austin Powers voice...) Yeah, baby!
I just got probably the last available new unit on the planet. It was a floor model and I got an amazing deal. (Even better than the Sam Ash blowout.)
Yamaha's marketing of this dealy-o will always be a mystery to me. Did they have it way overpriced? Overestimate the market for VA synths? Don't know. But it sure did add some muscle to my rig. Crushing basses, luscious pads, cool arpeggiators--just keep cranking them knobs and more neat stuff pours out. It instantly became indispensible
About all the controllers deliver CC info so you can MIDIfy all of your knob- excesses. Great! Keyboard feels better than I expected.
This is like a cross between an amazing musical instrument and the coolest toy you've ever owned. You'll spend part of your time energizing your music in some amazing ways, and part of your time staying up late just to fart around with the thing. Nice filters and other fun stuff.
This unit isn't deep the way the Kurzweil K2000 is deep. But it's deep in that there are millions of sound possibilities just beneath the surface, and all of the knobs you need to get there in a hurry. I've listened to the sound quality and FX through my headphones, keyboard amp, and studio monitors (Event 20.20bas), and I'm extremely impressed. You can nitpick about how some of the knobs were combined, but, overall, I think the control layout is very intelligently done.
If you run across anyone dumb enough to sell theirs, grab it. It's a hoot.

Novox..
Plastic..yes...toy..no way..
everyones got their opinions on whats better than what...so there....to some people the Jp8k may be slightly better, but then again, it cost about $600 more..Ever since i sold my Jp8k and got this, i havent looked back..the An1x does everything the Jp did, and more in my opinion..8 realtime knobs..yes..but if you are too lazy to push the VCF button and turn the knob, you have no business really using the An1x..beefed up Cs1x..ha! oh please....

I bought mine this past summer. Impresses me every time I play it. A few useful presets, which you can tweak to your heart content. Impressive bass, pads, almost anything. Due to modulation possibilities, some of the pads sound pretty much unique -- LFO on the filter, controlled by MW, with pitch EG... I don't know -- my Matrix-1000 can do a lot of this, but the Yamaha sounds warmer.
All in all, a great machine and by far the best value for the money.

I've had my An1x for maybe 2 weeks now, and i think i can write a fairly in depth comment about it. This is one of the most undervalued and mispackaged synths of all time. Seriously. I truthfully wouldnt pay the original price it was ($1199), but to be blown out at $499 is insane on Yamaha's part..they must be kicking themselves in the ass right now..as i said before...add 20 knobs, more LEDS, 2 more parts and 2 more voices, and you get a Synth that rivals the best of the VA's, hands down...I used to have a Jp8000, and i dont miss it one bit at all...the damn thing sounded incredibly digital as well..not sayin thats bad..but there were bigger basses and warmer pads comin out of my Xp30, than the Jp8k..when i compare the two, the only thing i think the Jp had over the AN was the realtime control..a knob for every parameter basically..with the An1x, theres menu's and 8 knobs....if you add that up, theres basically 56 parameters (8 knobs,7 menus, not including the assign menu)plus theres more when you spin that matrix knob...oooh boy...the pads are warm, the basses big, and the leads are fierce...i love it to death, and it pains me to think i spent 1050 on a Jp8k when i coulda had this...tsk tsk..oh BTW..the USA factory presets suck on the most part, then London Presets are a bit better...but if you want AWESOME presets, download the "yamaha best of bank"...kickass stuff!!
