What can I say? I have been waiting for 6 years for yamaha to release a follow up to the an1x...something like an an2x or an6x...those plg boards and the an200 seriously lack compared to the an1x..........

In terms of analog sound quality, An1x is the ABSOLUTE BEST synth out there, better filters than the ms2000, jp8000 and better realistic analog sound compared to the virus or nova...its just amazing what you can program into this synth.

The AN1x pads are just soooooo amazing......its unreal, its razor sharp leads and fat basses are the best you can get...I m not surprised, because yamaha brought the world physical modern technology with their VL synth in 1991, and since then nord lead used this physical modelling in the analog realm.

Only thing i don't like the an1x is for its computing power...it is only 2 part multi-timbral with ten note polyphony...how about 8 part multitimbral with 32 note polyphony, yamaha? And also, it will be nice if an2/6x can have a storage drive, usb, etc. and don't forget a decent vocoder!

YAMAHA MAKES SOME OF THE BEST INSTRUMENTS, and roland, korg, alesis, ensoniq and the rest of you can try , but you aint gonna be a yamaha...Yamaha is the innovator, period...from dx 7 to vL1 to legendary An1x..now i will be waiting for the an6x

I've had my AN1x now for about two years and I was thinking of selling it about a month ago and started playing it again after not using it for a few months and what a mistake that would have been. First of all for a V.A synth it has an incredible warmth you don't hear in these analog imposters and it gives you every resource you need for making analog sounds. You get osc. sync, ring mod. amazing filters, a serious group of Lfo's and if that weren't enough a free e.g. or motion recorder. I paid 500.00 for mine and didn't really know anything about it. I really don't think Yamaha did a good job advertising it but so what I got one, I love it and would never sell it. Some are even saying it's becoming rare. Also I have a EX-5 and when you m.i.d.i. them together it's magic!!! Better get cha one!!!

I bought mine in 2003 (not-used) and I'm very happy - now I have inexhaustible source of nice analog, some FM and SFX sounds.

This synth has a nice synthesis possibilities and VERY NICE WARM SOUND - really analog sound! It's in own class of (virtual) analog synths (together with Prophet 5 ;) ). It cannot become obsolete...

With AN1x knobs, wheels, etc. and AN1xEdit application creating and editing patches is a breeze.

I'll never sell my AN1x - I love it! This is unique and very dynamic piece of gear...

All I can say is 'WOW' back in 2000 I was consitering getting one of these, but the MS2000 just came out and that seemed to have a better features and sounded better at the time. A lot of my buddies got one of em and I just jumped on the band wagon...

Then I went to school to study Audio Technology/Engineering and at the Synth Lab and Engineering room there lies a 2 Yamaha DX7, a DXFM Rackmount, Yamaha EX5 (:) ), Kurzwiel 2600S+, MOOG MEMORY MOOG, and 15 G4+ with protools and lots of rackmount stuff, and a 64CH Gentech Analog Mixer and a Mackie 8 bus. They also had some other synths but I hav't messed with them.

I had a lot of fun in the lab, and I spent most of my time with the Yammie EX5, and was very much impressed with the ANALOG Voice DSP Part of it. It had a very flexible modulation matrix and the RAW sound is just awesome.... anyway...

I figured this must be the same sound engine from and AN1x. couldnt be further from the truth. I wanted an1x but I couldnt find one, but then I found a CS6x for $400 (2002),witch was a very good deal, and guess what came with it? A AN-PLG BOARD!

The possibilaties of this board exceed those of the MS2000, I also thing that the envelope genorators have the 'PERFECT' slopes! Fresh attack and most importantly Snappy decay! The EG slopes might seem insignificant, but it gives your OSCilators and Filters just the right amount of BREATH needed to keep it alive.

Oh oatbran71@hotmail.com, theres an internal switch that allows you to set the VCA output from -6 0 +6 and +12 db output, I think that 0db is good enough, but if its too low try setting it to +6 db.

You can also do this with the an1x editor on the VCA section

s roberts a professional user from UK writes:
this synth has a uniquely warm and organic sound among V/As, more realistically analog than any of the others, which means it can never be written off and is always worth hearing . Unfortunately though, like some other V/As it suffers from a sluggish velocity response which means it isn't as expressive and playable as it should be. For sheer warmth of sound this machine will always outclass other virtual analogue machines, but for expressiveness, programming depth, playability and all-round class the Korg Z1 is the obvious lead choice for me among V/A synths.
