There are;

The AN1x is a very good one. Why? Sounds very good and I like the touch of the key's. Better that those of the CS1x i've got. I like that analog feel of this synth. This synth i a almost unlimited source of sounds. Tip; Download the editor and use it together with this synth. You become a real sound designer. I like it, I like it. When you like analog buy this one. O.k. a wooden case instead of a plastic one should be better. Gentleman from Yamaha the next time.....

Greetings.

Javier Z a professional user from Argentina writes:
I have Analogue, Digital and VA synths, and I can say that the AN1x is the best VA I ever used, and I used a JP-8000, Nord Lead, Nord Modular (I own one), Nova, Prophecy, and Plug ins. Mercury-1 is cool as well.

Mr.Ron a hobbyist user from UK writes:
A great purchase this. I got it late 1998 and since then it is still my synthesizer of choice. Smooth creamy pads, organic leads, glassy bells, dirty gritty basses, bizzare FM harmonics...this synth is the dogs proverbials.

And it's SO easy to program. God-damn it, if only music-making were as easy as programming a sound on the AN1x is. The matrix can be a pain at times [try changing a delay from 150ms to 350ms], the aftertouch is a bit sensitive and the CS-clone case sux, but other than those minor faults this synth is great. This synth allows you to get away with some really weird-ass sounds.

For me though it's not a question of whether or not it's a VA. The important aspect is that this synth suddenly becomes the weird instrument you programmed, instead of just a collection of numbers. Used right and the sounds of the AN1x have got a conviction to them...an authority.

With an alpha wheel and a brushed steel case surrounding its internals the AN1x would easily be a classic. If you'll allow me a car analogy: We have all the performance of a Dodge Viper in the body of a Ford Escort.

Domenic a hobbyist user from USA writes:
Just got one in great condition from Guitar Center for $400 dollars. What a steal! This synth is incredible. I also own a Nord Lead 2 synth and let me tell you that so far I kinda like the An1X better. The An1x is so easy to operate and it's fun. The Nord is a nice piece, don't get me wrong. I guess I just need to spend more time figuring out the Nord. I've only had it for a couple of months and really haven't had the time to create sounds. Anyway, I love this An1x. This was well worth the money. I now have a red Nord Lead 2, a blue Yamaha An1X, and a black Korg X5D. If I could only afford the yellow Waldorf Q, I would have a nice colorful setup.

Darryl Rolark a part-time user from Chicago, IL writes:
I am a studio recording artist with various synths to recreate analog sounds from the '70s. I own a Yamaha AN1x synth which I have purchased in 1999. I became thrilled when I found out through experimentation that I can model the sounds duplicating many classic synths such as the Minimoog and Oberheim synths. I still use this synthesizer today to do classic jazz fusion and dance music. I wish the polyphony could be more than 10 notes, but other than that, this synth is a monster! This is one of those keyboards that can be regarded as a vintage synth.
