I bought my CS-01 new in perhaps 1984 and it has followed me ever since then. I regard it mostly as a toy, but isn't every synthesizer a toy in a positive manner. The best thing about it is the ease with which you can change the parameters. Only sliders and knobs, no menus and numeric values to fuzz with. I have understood from the other postings that the sounds are appreciated, and sure, I agree! The PWM is real powerful. Even if the small keys makes it a bit hard to play on, it has the advantage of true mobility. You can have it in your lap watching TV etc. It like the gameboy of real synthesizer, because this i certainly a real synth!

What a great idea this synth was. A versatile unit that you could play anywhere. Sure, it isn't the most complex synth available. However, it isn't limited and can make most of the cool, funky sounds modern music makers want. The build is typically Yamaha. Great. Reliability is guaranteed. Lovely filter and pwm control. Noise wave as well for effects. This is a really collectable and usable synth that everyone should want and use.

Lee Simeone a professional user from England writes:
This was the first keyboard I ever touched!!. I will always remember it because I was just 3 when I played it I can remember it so clear!. I was shocked at the powerfull sound and I still am (Im 23 now!!)..20 years on and still shocked by its powerfull sounds. The last time I played it up until now was 20 years ago!. I use to make funny noises thru the voice controller!! my dad would say 'What the fuc**** hell is that!!'..Thanks cs01 for happy memorys. Always in my heart buddy!..

Hans Tanderud a hobbyist user from Sweden writes:
You can't other than love this little sythesizer. It looks like a toy, but it is a real analog synth with a built in amp and speaker. It has got the genuine Yamaha-quality and the sounds are really very good. Add some effects to it and it can compare to much more expensive synthesizers. I will never sell it! If you can find one at a good price, buy it! You will not be disappointed. I can't give it less than 5 marks out of 5 possible since it exceeded all my expectations.

Nelson Langille a part-time user writes:
I saw a recent James Taylor concert (Live at the beacon theatre) where the keyboard player was using the CS-01 on stage to play one of his new songs.
