Mat Lowe. a professional user writes:
I was shocked when I first played this little synth. Its potential is huge. You expect Casio crap sounds but get a full on monosynth and a good one at that. For power to size ratio, this synth is unbeatable. The bass sounds are impressive, though this is not the end of the story. The leads are rich and it has noise for effects. It runs on batteries, or wall wort, and has a built in speaker. Through a full system it sounds massive. You would not be able to distinguish it from any top flight mono. They are difficult to locate. Good ones are. The keys pack up and break. I think that many were wrongly sold to kids as toys, though this was not a really cheap synth to buy new. Owners are possessive as the guy said below. After a search..longer than I expected, I bought one on the Sound on Sound web site, though it wasn't that cheap. 100, in fact, though I could get a good profit now. I never trust ebay stuff ( of course). Best to try before you buy. This little synth will make your other mono stuff obsolete. You will be sooo impressed. For those with limited studio space it is clearly a Godsend. Kenton used to offer a cv gate option. I'm sure that others do as well. Buy one of these to go with your JD800, 303 and a decent drum machine and a basic mixer and effects and you need nothing else. A studio set up which you can store in a box under your bed and run through your hi-fi! This baby offers a professional sound. Some say it looks like a toy. It doesn't. It looks like a proper synth, but in miniture.

v funky lil synth this, the sounds are lovely. very nice bass very full, and the most gorgeous singing high tones you will get from a synth! the filter is v nice, the osc sounds solid when full open. very nice pwm with it's own lfo. ooh and that ace stepping glissando! not played another synth that does that! only a shame you can't mix in noise with the osc. seems solidly made, great keys though the sliders on mine have got a bit crackly now. my only question is where can i get (or how do i make) a breath controller? absolutely great runs off 5 AA batts and goes in yr rucksack:->

Berty Bass a professional user from Rome/Madrid writes:
A very serious lil' machine. The pwm makes some serious bass stuff. Sounds more powerful than a mega poly I have in unison mode. I'm not joking this is a powerful creation. You can't buy though. Owners keep for life. Millions were made, it's a yam so they last for ever, so why none for sale? It takes up no space and feels and plays great.

A very clever and surprisingly versatile thing. Yamaha created a winner and killed it off to make the DX100. Oh dear.
