Yes, the FS1R is an awesome machine!! Really unique in many ways. Its a bit tricky to operate like all FM synths, but if you can dig into it, you will be very pleased with the result. It takes some effort, but the investment is so much worthwhile --you will never want to sell it. Mine stays here!!! And yes, you can get them for $350. I did --brand new!!

Guitar Center is now out of them nationwide. Mars Music is also out. But they're still available online from americanmusical.com (but for how long?). $440 delivered! Some say they're discontinued. Some say not. I tend to believe the former. Got mine three days ago.

The FS1R exceeds! Think four fabulously improved DX-7's in one. - But with 8 operators, not 6. - and 88 algorithms, not 32. - And with formant variations. - Strong, extreme effects! - Total Sysex control. - Clean, quiet, loud output (x4). The spaciest pads. The finest EP's. Great synths all around. Not a sample to be found. I have never heard a better digital synth. It sit's so nicely in the mix alongside the analog stuff. Excellent display.

Guess the demand for Analog/Virtual Analog hurt sales. Or maybe because it's not some "groovejunk" aimed at the sub-literate crowd.

If you're a true MIDI synthesist, you will do yourself a favor by acquiring one.

Disease Factory a professional user from USA,COLORADO writes:
Amazing. Dont let the presets fool you. You can make this thing moog like. I got a killer moog lead out of it by fooling around with it. Filters are way cool, and man the FX are top notch, throw distortion on, boom, industrial, throw delays, phazer, boom techno. the S**T!!!! now for 400 bucks, if you by roland jv/xp, or any rompler, kick yourself. Buy 2 of these and get the poly you need, they are versitle, get a mono synth (analog, sampler, 2 of these, and you can write amazing tracks. Not gear for dumb preset people. Learn to program sounds, this is a king. Digital fm synth! rocks the world. Yamaha did us all a favor.. thanks...

I hate this module!! I bought mine from the Dallas Guitar Center about a week ago and haven't had a decent nights sleep since. I find myself waking in the middle of the night thinking of sounds I want to write for this thing,I awaken early in the morning and program it before work. My wife thinks I've gone crazy,I haven't had this much fun since my first Synthi AKS in 1973(yes,I'm that old and I've gone throught the gamut of synths. fm-analogs...). Was it worth the $399.00 that I paid for it? Well,I lost more than that getting rid of my Yamaha EX5 to get my General Music SK76(if you aren't familiar with these shame on you!)....Scott

SRS a professional user from USA writes:
An interesting, and so far so good- though I doubt it`s worth the effort to other than tweak the sounds synthesizer. The digital e.p`s are as good as they get-just top notch, as are the basses, and several of the soft pads are quite warm and welcoming as well. Well worth purchasing now that the price- I paid $325.00- has come down out of the stratosphere. Just this A.M. I sketched out a soft Brazilianish jazz piece- me playing nylon string acoustic with my mate backing with e.p. chords (the e.p. wide with the attack softened a bit, and a little formant for spice)-then a soft pad- don`t recall which- overed. A whole lot of synths sound oddly off key when layered under acoustics, but not this one. This one fit right in!(P.S.When it comes to sound, I usually don`t even consider what others have to say about instruments- personal tastes being... and etc.-so this is my first- and maybe only- posting to this site. But since this FS1R is apparently going to go away soon, it only seems right that I add my praise to this very nice little unit. If only the Yamaha designers had thought to make this thing more easily-consuming less time-programmable...
