got this baby for christmas....well worth the 600 bucks i spent on it. i am a former mc303 owner and i have to say that the mc303&505 suck royally compared to the rm1x. display is great and easy to read and navigate. sounds are ok but with a little tweaking, they sound a whole lot better. multiple recording modes is a great feature too. i like the fact that you can record more than just one sound per track (for instance, instead using one track per drum sound, you can program an entire rythm one a track). sure, it's more complex than the mc303, but i feel that it's easier to grasp. i have a korg es-1 slaved and the 2 together provide numerous possibilities. for 1000 bucks, these 2 boxes can produce some pretty nice tracks. the manual is well written and pretty comprehensive.
if anyone could help.... i have cakewalk metro and it does not list the rm1x in the sysex dump menu. does anyone know how to get around that or do i have get cakewalk pro?

The RM1x is the best box I ever laid hands on under $600 bucks. At first I thought the sounds were wack until I took the time to fully grasp the functions. All you need is time to explore the job menu and experiment. This thing is great for on the fly song making plus its a powerful sequencer. I think you could use the rm1x for hiphop, techno, triphop, drumNBass, and R&B. I use it for my main synth since I don't have a sound module or sampler at the moment. When I let people hear my songs they can't tell if it a Rm1x or something else. If you add effects and mix it down with a little compression, you got a powerfull track. A friend of mine has a yamaha 540 which he can make sound like a korg trinity with a fx box and 4track mixer. So, I don't see why people complain, just get more creative. Don't work harder, work smarter. For the people on this forum who dis the rm1x and neva spent time learning the instrument, get off the CRACK... PEACE

The rm1x is a great peice of gear, The over all sounds are good and the effects are good also. The seqencer is great. The drum kits are ok but the bassdrum sucks ass, overall i would recommend the rm1x to anyone making psy-goa-trance, techno,ect. i got a nice midi controller to and it works great. Very easy to program and after a couple day its cake.

This thing is in a different league to the Roland boxes. Creating new patterns is easy and the effexts are mad the only thing i would have liked is for expandability with more sound sets to give more scope with the internal sounds (which are better than everyone makes out) sequencer is brilliant in a tweakable way but i still prefer software for the final mixdown

I have my RM1x for +/- 1,5 year. I must say, this box has more then you would think. My first songs sounded not good. But the more you spend time in making good patterns, and searching for good sounds and very important, adding effects to the voices, the more your songs improve. Now after 1,5 year, I can say (I don't want to show off) my demo's sound not that bad. Believe me, you should spend the first half year in discovering all the options while making demo's. Only when having finished that, you can start thinking of making your own made music collection. Again: this box is wonderful: the way of working, the effects, the sequencer ... Only the voices could have been better in my view. But aaaarh, just use the effects to improve them and you will surprise your friends :-)). And if you ask me, there are some very good trance voices. I really can't imagine anymore my life without my RM1x, I swear.
