I bought this unit mainly to use as a drum machine. I also like hardware sequencers. As a drum machine it suits me just fine. Haven't used sequencer yet, but this little guy seems to be MORE than I expected. This is a great addition to my setup. Most of the presets suck, but we don't have to use them now do we? If you're thinking about getting one of these-stop thinking and go get one right now. You could do alot worse.

This thing would have been just as good without the sample playback engine. Then again Yamaha probably wouldn't have been able to market it as well. I would love to see just a sequencer similar in function to the the x0x step format but with adjustable start and end points for each track, polyphonic step entries, adjustable pitch, gate, and time, adjustable swing for each track controllable by rows of knobs above the step entry buttons. Combine the best features of x0x type sequencing, analog style sequencing, as well as editing features of an MC-80 type midi sequencer... okay just ideas... but i think mostly it is better to have devices dedicated to doing one thing very well. all these "grooveboxes" are kind of fun, but limited in many aspects. a good synthesizer isn't hard to find, and everyone should find outboard gear that suites their tastes rather than limiting themselves...

This machine Rocks! The sounds are incredible. Good for techno, rock, funk, jazz, anything!!! You get them cheap now on ebay and other places. It is possible to make a whole record with just this. you can sell all your other stuff and use just this. I love it!!!

Well, i think this is a good piece of gear, if the right person is in front of it. Very usefull sounds, good sequencer, good features. Criticism is everywhere, hard to face the truth. Yamaha rm1x is an good sequencer ( remixer). I give it 5 out of 5.
