Recently bought the rm1x really cheap... This changed the whole way in wich i make music... i stopped using my software sequencer, dont even have the machines connected to the computer... no, at the moment im running my rm1x as main sequencer, to it i have my mc505 connected (wich i dont use alot anymore after getting the rm1x...) and at the end is my lovely little su700 sampler... i dont use my other equipment anymore... :) thats it... amazing to work with this setup....
go for the rm1x....

I've been coveting one of these units for months now, and now they've been turning up used at decent prices so I took the plunge. The verdict? It's been 48 hours since I bought mine and I haven't got much sleep. I'm familiar with a lot of these sounds as I own an SW1000XG card, but there are a lot of new ones here and they're pretty impressive.
I've been a loyal Cubase user for over a year now, and there are a lot of conveniences only a software sequencer can offer, but I'm ready to chuck the software sequencer altogether. Why? Because you can't play Cubase like you can the RM1X. Simple things, like being able to mute tracks or switch patterns on the fly, being able to twist those fiter knobs, tap in a new bpm, and best of all being able to take it out of the studio and sequence in bed while watching Saturday morning cartoons....Can't do any of that with a computer.
I've already got it hooked up to my keyboard and Waldorf Pulse module and have been using my Mac only as a recording unit.
Some complaints: more outputs, more effects (no compressor?), and a better manual. That's all. I'm enjoying this unit immensly.

I've had the Rm1x for about 4 months now and I tell you this is the soul MIDI of my Equip. I use this with the ESI32 sampler. The bass sounds are quite thin but once edited with Chorus, reverb and or distortion, (ohhh my goodness). It sounds super cool.. Also I like the hi hat with added phaser. You can come up with any type of music genre really with this machine... from jazz, house, trance, Depeche mode type of music.

I second what syrusate, said. I've had mine for almost a week, and it's great. The RM1x's sequencer is ALL YOU NEED for your sequencing satisfaction. Don't believe the harsh criticism of the sounds, TO ME, they are better than the 303, and 505. I don't even care that the MC-505 has a REAL synth engine in it. I'll post a more in depth review later, but I HAVE TO SAY THIS, Yamaha's support is great! They just sent me the 1.13 os chip, in about a week after I called them. That's good support.

I have this box for a while now, but never posted a review till now. Compared with the mc-303 and 505 , which to me there is no comparison. The rm1x is far superior to both machines. Sure the sounds may not be "whats in" but they are usable. And its nice to now i can take the rm1x on a trip with me and use the internal sounds as a drawing board. Hooking this bad boy up to external gear is so sweet, and easy as well. As far as the sequencer goes, which is why i bought it, it rules, i never got into cubase and logic. And other hardware seqeuncers grab my interest either, but the rm1x , no matter how many menus, is very precise and easy to use, especially with the step and grid recording, truly amazing. There is some things i dont like about, and have ideas of what should have been added, but all machines are like that. Overall it does what i want was in my price range and i have a blast using it.
