anybody who expects the rm1x to be loaded with current and usable sounds must have not even looked at the box when they bought it. It says "sequence remixer," not "sound module." It has plenty of sounds that will blow your pants off, but it's not the one-stop midi production tool, and it's really not that fair to hold it upon that kind of pedestal.
i use it as the centrepiece of my midi setup because it's sequencer is rad and it has a disk drive. i have collaborators who also own it and we'll exchange disks and screw around with each other's tunes. i'll use quite a few of the analog-modeled sounds and sampled drums, but if i want an 808/909/303 emulator i'll go elsewhere.
the rm1x does it's job, and damn well too. you could spend twice the money on other kit and still not be able to do what the rm1x does in a single box. so what if the presets are flawed? he uses presets anyway? let's not blame the box for our laziness, folks.

When I first looked at the RM1x it took me about 15 minutes before buying it. Now 4 days later,...I'going wild!!! It's everthing I wanted!... I'm broke but the happiest man alive.
great sound, many fx, knobs, DOS floppy's!, midi options, ect..
Roland MC-505? costs more does less.
negative point: my other equipment seems so.... poor.

Love the sequencer, great for live gigs. The tone generator really sucks so be prepared to buy some samplers etc...

Good points - class sequencer, really wide selection of sounds, great fx, good solid build, best of all, it has never ever locked up, crashed, corrupted or lost any of my work, ever. Its got so much going on, several months after you buy it you'll be discovering cool stuff
Bad points - some of the sounds are a little lame, the step recording is diabolical - they could've made it soooooo intuitive, instead they made it rather nasty, lack of independant outs, some functions reset the voices on external gear that the rmix is controlling which is fairly annoying...

The RMIX is a wonderful sequencer with 16 tracks. You really cannot go wrong with this one. It is a Winner!! Also has the disk drive and can read Midi files too (format 0). The RMIX makes a nice companion for any sampler, but especially that Emu 6400 Ultra. I think you would be very happy with that marriage. With those 2 pieces of gear alone, you could put together some unbelievable mixes. Get the RMIX -- go for it --You will be GLAD!!!
