this machine is really great, it just needs someone with talent as an owner, unless you want to use all the presets, which you wont need once you get to know the sequencer and all its endless possibilities. i have mine a month ago and it is really easy to use, you just have to READ THE MANUAL and youre all set. i have mine hooked to an sp505 sampler and a cs2x synth. right now i dont need any more, its a grat setup

Had my RM1X for over a year now and I love it. I use it to run an external sampler, synthesizer and drum machine. Sequencer timing and versatlity are outstanding. I'm considering expanding my studio to incorprate my computer and going with programs like Reason and Sonar to expand my capabilities. Problem is, I'm comfortable with my Hardware setup, as it's not overly complex (i.e. I don't have to be a computer technician to set things up) and it NEVER crashes. I could just spend the money on more hardware tone modules and maybe a second RM1X to double available MIDI tracks. Does anybody have experience with running 2 RM1X's? Does this work well?
Besides, being surrounded by all this hardware(instead of having it all up on computer monitor) is just so cool. But the software route is cheaper to expand once set up...help

Well, I posted a review few weeks ago saysing how difficult a time I had learning how to program the RM1X. Wel, what a difference some serious quality time makes! For someone, like me, who is NOT a tech head, there is simply no alternative to simply hunkering down and spending four, five hours or more just exploring the machine. I finally did so, not just tinkering around for 10 - 15 min and giving up in despair. The results are stunning. Go back and read the review from Larry several posts ago and you'll see I was so dissapointed, I seriously considered selling the unit. Well now I have 5 five cold blooded samples that I hope someone will like somewhere. I have been astounded that I have FINALLY learned how to program an entire song from scratch. Trust me, the machine is unbelievable. My friends come over and cannot believe I created these banging assed beats. So i reverse my opinion. The machine gets a perfect five. Remember I'm saying all this having learned just 1/10th of what the RM1X is capable of. Give yourself time to learn the machine. Read the manual, and practise, practise and practise. One day your efforts will be well rewarded!

I am so sick of people complaining about the rm1x. Sure the sounds can sound bad at times but you can get around this. The rm1x is what it is, a SEQUENCER!! It has a tone generator on it to compete with other "groove boxes" out there. Cant lay down a track properly? I really dont see what the deal is. Just pick how long you want each track, record them and then make different patterns. How hard is that? This machine does have a lot of things to learn, (I still havent even used half of the job list) and my tracks are great. If you have trouble with this machine I wish you luck on learning something actually complicated. And the sounds? Ever hear of external gear? The rm1x alone will not make you a techno superstar! And who cares what gear you do have, If you have good ideas it will come through whether you have a triton or an mc-303. And why complain about presets?? Please dont tell me you actually use presets for more than seeing how a song is constructed and not to copy various patterns and call them your own! Would you buy a canvas and paint a picture of mona lisa or would you buy a canvas and paint your OWN picture? I hope this is an easy question to answer.
