Can't understand what's so difficult with this gear. I've had it now for about a month and it's pretty simple to operate (with a little help of the manual still). The sounds are not the best, but like said on this site times before; it's a sequencer! Haven't really tried tweaking the preset sounds much yet, because I firstly make the bottom things with my other gear, but altering the sounds seems to be anyway at least satisfying. So, beast it is!

I finally bought my RM1X 3 months ago, after reading dozens of reviews, mostly pro, some con. I paid $550.00 used, including shipping. It's in mint condition, only missing the disc. My opinion, after three months of work is...if you are a not very familiar with the nuances of programming music or if you're not familiar with gate, and velocity and quantize and step programming, then go lightly my good man. This thing is A BEAST to overcome. Three months later I still can't figure out how to program my own sounds. I know how to string along the preset grooves into a song, but I want to be able to lay down my own tracks. I want to record the drum track, the strings, the keyboard and then combine them into one killer song. Problem is, I read the manual till I'm dizzy and I still can't get it. My recordings come out sounding like a kindergartener on acid. Cn't believe that after lusting after this machine for months, I'm almost ready to put it up for sale. Maybe I overestimated my skills or I underestimated how difficult learning this machine would be. I'll keep trying but just be warned if your a programming rookie: Nuclear Physics is a joke compared to the RM1X!

I want to say that this machine is a full on beast! Yes, we have all heard better sounds, but this machine gives you the tools to warp them into something unrecognizable! You get a 16 track sequencer, thousands of loops to play with and deconstruct, bass boost, and dedicated mute buttons. Sure, I would love to have the opportunity for expansion, but for under $400 shut the hell up!
Not to mention you get a disk drive to save all your patterns and songs.
In closing, yes there is better gear out there but you will be hard pressed to find better value.

(my english is not perfect) but... the Rm1x it�s a very friendly machine, and the best of another machines focus in-live sessions. This powerfull tool give you everything you need to mix, and remix in LIVE songs. Couple with a SU-700, it�s a killer duo for "mutate" your music. I think that is a cool Professional tool for play concerts. This machine , use it to maximun power, simple.. you can do everything you imagine. I said.. the machine dont will convert a master; You.. and only you.. discovery what the machine can be do. This machine its not for anyone..

Ok, first off, you all must have had the chance to play before you buy. I use the RM1X alot. I have it hooked to an E-MU and a yamaha keyboard with midi. I have not really run into any limits(yet). The RM1X is perfect for many things. I have used it for web sounds, loops, and complete songs. There are 8 knobs yes, but just like a coin, it has 2 sides. That's 16 knobs really. You can totally tweak any sound sooo many ways and record all effects and volume in realtime. So, I have mentioned only a few things and I will tell you, there is much more to it. if you know how to use it, you can record 16 tracks in 16 sessions and then chain the sessions to make a complete professional song with effects. Get to know it before you judge it. By the way, i got it when it first came out and I paid 750. I still say it's worth it.
