hehehehe, you prefer a 909 to the ry-10. Hmm... quick math... 1x909@1000USD=10xry10@100usd. Tough call.

Nobody in their right mind would take their 909 to a party, out to coffee, or to school with them, but...... AHHHHH!!! the ry10, being battery powered is great for those uses. How many things can you dink around with in a public place, and pass around the table at a restraunt, working on music? It's truly a social drum machine. And it sounds pretty good too (with a little compression, or even 2 detuned pads, phear the 808 kick on this thing) The sound effects, while kinda cheesy, can, if used properly, make some interesting industrialesque beats.

and everything sounds better through the internal speaker =)

Downside: No midi out/through, 2 outs, can't turn off the metronome in realtime mode and the sequencer is limited to 16 ticks per patern(of course your 909 is too..)

Of course, I think I'd rather find an ry30, but I picked this one up for 97.62USD (after tax) at a pawn shop.

I think its wonderful, but i better prefer Roland TR808 (for hard analogue drum sounds) or Roland TR909 (if you are a techno maniac) Two years ago i had such kind if a rythm machine in my bedroom and i made some nice techno tracks with it but now im using Roland TR909.

a really hard sounding lofi drummachine, some of the percussionsounds suck but the kick, its so hard, it just blows a away the R8 or DR660 is terms of raw power

This is a wonderful little drum machine. It's portable, has it's own speaker and you can mix another instrument into it. It's got the Roland X0X style drum programming and it isvery simple to get around the unit , without a manual. And the sounds ! I am not sure how many are in there, but there are a lot from 808 style drums, to KraftwerkFX, to Bass lines. I traded my Yamaha MU-5 tone box in for this and have not looked back. I only wish it had a MIDI out, but I can live without it. Although I have other gear, right now , I am only using the RY and the new Korg Electribe EA synth. Lots of noise in my bedroom.....
