Don't forget the line-in, I used this baby to have jam sessions in the park with a SM58 on the line in, and out to JVC/MD. Porta studio that is with quality beatz. The bass synth is a bit corny though...

i recently sold my ry-10, and now i miss it like hell. it's got no midi out and got shit memory (49 16-note patterns), but the amazingly intuitive interface haunts me every day. fortunately i saved all the sounds onto a mini-disc so that i can sample them later. the sounds are awesome considering all the other shortcomings of this machine, and even not considering it's shortcomings. if anyone is selling theirs let me know.

This is by far the greatest drum machine deals ever. I paid $60.00 for it like brand new in the box with manuals. First off if you are slightly familiar with Yamaha gear this thing will be a breeze to operate. I was writing patterns in less than 10 minutes. The internal speaker is kind of cool and stupid at the same time. Just like the battery deal. Batterys are just too expensive to use up in a drum machine. I don't think I would be out in the middle of nowhere with no electricity for the power supply. The internal speaker is weak, but is probably ten years old, so whatever. At least it has an speaker on and off switch. Drums sound pretty damn good especially through an external effects processor. The pads aren't velocity sensitive, but with the midi in and an external velocity sensitive device the unit is. I am overall very impressed with this little unit, I like it when I buy inexpensive gear that I end up really enjoying. I would recommend this unit if you can get it for $50 - $80, or else I would just look for a RY-20 for around $100.

Incidentally, featured heavily in the live set of legendary 90s beat combo, THE SHELF. Yes I know, drum machine / live set....what's that all about.

if you find one s/hand and cheap, steal the money to buy it. Unless your an anorak collector tekky or drum and bass merchant, this baby is all you should ever need. More rock than techno but plenty of choice of sounds, interchangeable kits, Import sounds from one kit to another to create custom kits. record in stereo using the pan controls, cool. some of the preset "pad" sounds are surreal but very useable. Gripes...cant drop sounds in and out on the fly during song playback. Can't change to different tempo's in song mode.( if you can, please let me know.thanx) doesn't turn into a pizza after midnight. Plusses... excellent L.E.D.s and display. simple to programme and edit. If you are limited when recording you can play a k/board or guitar through it if you sort out your levels, saving valuable tracks. virtually every parameter can be custom tweaked. This baby should,in view of what it can do, be 3 foot long by 2 foot wide and come in interchangeable colours schemes to suit your mood.
