There's been a lot of talk about the su-700 freezing up on some people, and then again on some it doesn't do it at all. Anyone ever thought that the problem could be brownouts? Those are very rare around here (actually one happened a while ago, that's why I thought of this), but I've heard in some countries they happen all the time. Someone with the freezing problem should test the unit with whatchacallit "blackout saver" or something. Well, you know, it's an extra battery that allows you to do stuff for a while after a blackout, also kills the effects of brownouts. If someone tests it, let me know if it worked. I'm not gonna buy it if it freezes on me all the time.

Version 1.03 was supposed to fix the bug, but my SU700 has frozen about twenty times since I installed it! ( it was installed by a qualified tech as well).

first. excuse moi for my english. second.the su700 is the best sampler i ever touched and worked on.The sound quality is very good and using the effects (especially compressor) help you produce tracks that you wonder how good they are.I have also a w-30 (brilliant too) and a s-760 but they both sound like roland very deep and very warm ,but if you want in your face sound you should check yamaha su700 . third.no freeze problems ever. fourth.very very very slow scsi.very bad especilally in live situations. My roland s-760 loads from zip 32 megs in 20 seconds. fifth.-buy it.

Hey unknown user, why not make yourself known. I believe this machine, apart from an operating system bug (as major as it is) is an excellent production machine. In fact, I have composed entire tracks with just the SU700 (though I wouldn't want to continue in this way due to lack of keyboard playing capabilities). I have however been wary of its use as a live machine due to the freeze-bug which some units defintely suffer from. I agree with you otherwise, the machine is very spontenious, and very tweakable while you are jamming or performing. I do also believe, however, that as a production tool, alongside some more melodic gear (synths, traditional sampler, vocals etc) it is a formidable force! I know this opinion may seem confusing due to some mixed previous reviews earlier, but I will re-stress how much I loved this machine, APaRT FRoM ThE BUg!!!!!!!! which is the only reason I just got rid of it!!!
