Spot on Major.
I won't post another review, my earliest ones were weird enough (looking back), just to add that yeah, everyone I know with an MPC (that's five people, and they're all good mates) envy the sounds that come out of SUE. While I sometimes envy the hardware sequencing power they have, the soundshaping possibilites SUE700 offers have won me over for the last couple of years. Great fun, and a lot of great sounds to be heard.
No rating, cos that would be like voting twice, hell it would be voting twice!
I don't work for Yamaha. I work for ACCESS, Korg, Roland and Mac Donalds. No actually, I'm kidding. I boycotted Mikky Dees five years ago.

to brian from canada, just turn on your zip drive with the disk in first, then power up the su700 and you should be all go. i use the same zip drive and it works fine.

I have had the SU700 for almost two years...outside of the fact that you cannot map samples across a keyboard, THE SU700 is a great all-in-one box. IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING THIS PIECE PLEASE DO NOT LISTEN TO THE ADVICE OF SOME OF THE USERS BELOW...THE SU700 CAN SAMPLE AND PLAY BACK HI-HATS,KICKS, SNARES, ONE-SHOT HITS & STABS FROM SAMPLE CDS AND RECORDS. AND YES YOU CAN PUT TRACKS TOGETHER IN A SIMILAR FASHION AS THE MPC. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SET THE RELEASE TIME OF THE SAMPLE PAD FROM THE DEFAULT [45] TO THE MAX, WHICH IS [127]. WHEN THE RELEASE TIME HAS BEEN CHANGED YOU BE ABLE TO HIT THE PADS AND TAP OUT DRUM PATTERNS AND MELODIES USING SMALL SAMPLES W/O HAVING TO HOLD THE PAD DOWN TO PLAY THE ENTIRE HIT/STAB. (THE REASON WHY MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW THIS IS BECAUSE WE ALL DON'T LEARN OUR EQUIPMENT IN AND OUT) I have an Akai MPC2000 as well...and although the SU700s sequencer is designed differently, it is quite capable of producing some quality music - depending on the genre.
If you have a small budget and you're looking for a CAPABLE (Depending on the user) Phrase Sampler w/ effects & Sequencing you can't go wrong with thw SU700. For all you aspiring Hip Hop "producers" get yourself one of these, a turntable and some records - lock yourself in the house for a couple of weekends and you might be pleasantly surprised with the amount of HEAT you can create with the tools in front of you.
Most Importantly - Remember this...A Triton and an MPC won't make you Dr. Dre,the Neptunes, or Timbaland. It's not the machine that does it - it's the man behind the controls.
"Focus on the positive possibilities and you'll find a way around limitations. Stop worrying about what you don't have and do what you can, where you are, with what you do have."
