Always have loved this machine, a stable romance I would say, RCM is v cool stuff, but one thing bugs me. Velocity response on my sy is 1-100, can I find a system software update to make this 1-127. Thanx in advance for any help

The most flexible synth i have encounterd until now!. The combination of 24db filters (stackable to 48db!) and soundengine is capable of producing almost any synth type sound. The great thing is that you can put a PCM sound into a FM occilator wich offer great sonic options. For acoustic sounds this machine is not very good. But in this sample period that seems not very relevant. Further : Good interface & MIDI options. Get one if you can

Analoguesque Sound Designs a professional user from USA writes:
I reviewed this synth a while back, but just have to come back again and rave about it. It is one of the most underrated synths on the planet, but it's FM label scares many people off. They see FM and immediately run away screaming, which is a real shame because the SY77 is capable of so much more.

The specs of this synth are a little underestimated, so let me spell them out: 1) 16-note polyphony in the AWM (sample) department. 2) 16-note polyphony in tha AFM (FM) department. That's already quite a bit for such an old synth.

However, what people don't realise is this : For each note of AFM polyphony, you have access to 6 oscillators (operators in FM) speak. That's a pretty phatt synth right there. For each preset you can layer 4 AFM voices, which gives you ... 24 oscillators. Okay, so if you use 4 AFM voices per preset then you're down to 4-note polyphony, but when things are this phatt, who cares? Now each voice has 3 feedback loops which can be routed to any of the 6 oscillators, effectively giving you a few more psuedo oscillators. In short, this thing is capable of phatt sounds, and that's only the AFM portion. Throw in the resonant filter and the SY77 is a super-capable synth.

I've spent lots of time programming analog presets on this thing, and it really is capable of emulating many analog, grungy, moogy sounds.

Schoofs Peter a hobbyist user from Belgium writes:
This is a great synth, recently i bought an EX 7, but still the sounds i get out of my SY77 are still the best, and im after a lot of practise very good at the FM programming, and FM rules with the filters, no other synth can produce sounds like an sy77. I own it for 10 years and i still love it.Best ever!!
