Everyone laughed at me during the late eighties for using a toy keyboard. Now who's laughing? No one even makes a decently price keyboard sampler anymore. I agree, Yamaha would make a fortune by putting the VSS-30 back into production.

We bought four or five of these little VSS-30 toys when they first came out. Now, I wish we had bought 25 of them. This is the nicest little 8-bit sampler anyone ever made. Blows away toy Casio samplers for features, lay-out, and fidelity. One tiny little bug: It locks-up every once in a while during the sample process, requiring a "re-boot" of the circuit by switching it off momentarily. But that's not a big problem, considering its incredible functionality and versatility. It has a four-stage amplitude enveloper, which is unprecedented for a "toy!" The range of sounds you can get is fantastic. If Yamaha was smart, they'd make lots more of these wonderful little keyboards. I have used the VSS-30 in many studio sessions for incidental sounds, and even leads. Highly recommended!

Considering that it is indeed a toy, it is at least a very good one. It's great for sampling cheesy dialogue on the fly and messing with it. It sounds especially creepy when you sample yourself humming and play a little harmonized melody with it. Fun stuff if you like to experiment with cheap gear.

funny synth and you could scratch drum-loop in realtime using the reverse button it was my first sampler ;o)
