David Waldman a hobbyist user from Washington, DC writes:
Extremely feature rich for a toy. Sound quality is noticeably better than the SK-1, and all those ways to bend the sound! The VSS-30 is actually a better bet than its big brother, the VSS-100 (don't know about the VSS-200, though...anyone know something about this?). Cool panel graphics a la DW-8000. Hard as heck to find though. Inspirational!

I found one of these babies at a rummage sale for only $3.00! And I am glad I did!

It BLOWS THE SOCKS Off of those so-called "samplers" from Casio (SK 1//5/8/10, Even the SK-60!) The sound quality of the samples you can make is far above ANY of Casio's units. I had an SK-1, SK-5 and have an SK-60, but now the SK-60 will probably become a [choose one: paperweight/doorstop/dust collector] Neither of those can hold a flame to this baby! It has an RCA/Phono jack for direct Audio input from your CD/PC/Mac/Tape/VCR/DVD/PSX/Dreamcast/N64/Radio etc., as long as you have the right connector.

The only gripe I have is there is no power indicator LED, so you can eat up batteries if you forget to turn it off.

OK guys and Girls, This is such a cool little toy or should i say Sampler? well, It is what it is ( like "Jelly" from the movie "Analize this" will say) I gave it a 5 stars cause it worth it for the price it was sold and just because it really can make music. Unlike the Casio SK Ugly samplers series,(I've owned few and sold all) The VSS-30 is quite amazing. to have a portable little bugger that works on batteries and not just have a sampling feature but Real editing??? Hey, you get here some really usable editing features. Such as ADSR envelope,( with 4 dedicated buttons!!!) Loop,U-Turn(extremely cool with loops), Reverse,Echo,Fuzz,Freq Mod. and Amp Mod...wait I'm not done yet, there is also an arp that can trigger the sampled sound with tempo, and my best feature is the Over Write sampling... Which lets you stack as many samples on top of each other. Now, Do not attempt to compare it to a Yamaha A-3000 or dynacord or Akai etc. Come on, It is a little tiny toy that actually sounds amaizing for its uses in todays world of the strange recordings. I say it with my eyes looking at you - The Yamaha VS-330 is the King of all the little 8 bit Toy samplers. If you ever find one GRAB IT !!! ciao and keep the music going all over the world.

Great tool and very cheap. max Polyphony is 4, as my VSS30 is concerned. It is used a lot in Techno & Elektro music, and a good partner for experiments.
