My Drummer crashes a lot in interactive mode (Ilike 14). Certain patterns crash more that others! Does any one know why?

the drummer is awesome. It does sound very human with intense variations of amplitude. Takes a while to figure out but doing so has helped me understand MIDI much better. The manual is kind of oddly written. There is an addendum to the manual that helps but is also oddly written. I don't quite get the difference between the "patterns" and the "presets" Anyways it's fun. It seems like all drum machines should have this as part of the device.

This little device is very musical and a great way to bring some life into your sequencer or drum machine. The Drummer has an almost eerie ability of being able to add that human touch element to your tracks. Im a guitarist who also plays a lot of drums and this tool can be a great source of inspiration for creative fill and break ideas. Many times the result is surprising and the process of experimenting with the Drummer is entrancing. the 32k chip is definitely worthwhile. you want it so you can store more of your cool user presets. :)) All of the OB Perf/x devices are magic MIDI tools. The Cyclone, the Strummer, the Navigator, the Systemizer. Each one is a must buy in my book, however, the Drummer is certainly one of my favorites of all the Perf/x tools from OB. BTW....I have owned the entire set of all 5 Perf/x OB tools for about 8 years. They have become invaluable and highly useful over the years. i cannot replace them, so i will keep em until they disintegrate. Extremely creative and musical devices that will fire up your imagination and your choices in a big way! The Cyclone is still the best arpeggiator i have found due to its magical OS....and i also own a SuperNova....which goes deeper yet is not quite as user-friendly as the Cyclone, so the Cyclone wins. The Drummer is kind of arpeggiator too i guess yet more in line with what you will need for a drum track creation tool.

I have owned a Drummer since 1988 or 89. It is a great little machine, but it has its own style, and you can get tired of it after a while. The unique thing about it is it generates variations and fills on the fly. So, if you select a rhythm feel with lots of variations, you hear little cool things going on, and it is like a human in that these things are not repetitive. Press the fill footswtich and you hear a fill -- not repetitive, but I would love to change the fill style.
I have version 3.1 of the firmware. I would like to upgrade but I have no idea how I can do that. Does anyone know?

This machine is amazing. Period. I play with synths a lot and when I'm trying to compose something the last thing I want to do is try to come up with a cool drum part. I am NOT a drummer! Don't want to have to be. I'd much rather spend that time tweaking the synths. With this you don't need a drummer or to think like one. All you have to do is run through a handful of the something like 10,000 variations and pick one you like - done! If you want to get real complicated you can set it to change the drum patterns or presets in "songs." There are 100 patterns in each of the 100 presets and it will hold 16 different kits (midi key assignments)in memory. And quite a few other variables you can throw in for fun. Change the tempo, hell, it even responds to your playing style if you want it to. I have mine routed to a Yamaha RM50 drum module - another excellent box! Never have figured out how to program THAT one, though it's got great sounds, mostly real using I think 512 samples. The two together are just stunning. sounds totally real if you close your eyes with the volume up right. You definitely need the manual for the Drummer. It is super easy to use once you know how, but it isn't obvious how a lot of the functions work. Press and hold button 4 "kit" then hit the mode button (for assigning drums to a new kit for example). For anybody into midi composition or composing in general, this machine is a real godsend. The intelligence and user friendliness of this machine should make so many companies blush with shame by comparison - genius, pure unadulterated genius. That said, I'm real curious to see what the new Wizoo Darbuka and Latigo programs can do... I love great drums, just can't stand to do them by hand... My only beef with the Drummer is it only has 16 drums at one time. But that's easy enough to remedy with a sequencer and some time. Even so, this box is worth a fortune for it's ability to just give you great ideas. Very hard to find, though... Took me over a year to track one down. I will NEVER sell this.
