Hello there, I use the virus in almost every production. the usual impressions: great, but sonically not very versatile filters, a nice and usable effects section, great for fx, not that usable for the usual dance and trance stack sounds but pads, you need a lof of postprocessing and some real good analogue EQ to make the bass usable, but then the bass is really competitive and fortunately doesn't sound like that cheesy ugly bass from old analogue synths. I like the virus, but IMHO it's a bit overhyped everywhere. I've had a virus B, virus C and now I used to have a virus TI. Right now, it's being shipped back because of some display issues. I'm experiencing the usual stuff like hanging notes etc etc etc. not as terribly as some users seem to experience them, but if you use the USB connection, you have to restart your host several times in a hour, so it's not usable. There are some real genious patches, but compared to the amount, they are rather poor IMHO, as usual, first, you gotta do a few banks on your own.
Some users wrote that it's "built like a tank", IMHO, it beats Yamaha and Roland, but still appears to be some rather cheap production. Probably I'm spoilt.
I give three points. Soundwise 4,5 (wavetables totally unusable, but it's still a virus) but -1,5 points because of all the really annoying issues all the time...
I really hope access manages to fix that box with the OS 1.1 which they promised two monts ago already and didn't release yet...
Please potential buyer, wait until 1.1 and then, if it works, go for it, otherwise grab a used virus C which I love!
