The Virus Kb/B/Indigo is awsome. I have the KB version, the keyboard on it is top notch. If your just starting with a studio, the Kb will work great as a master keyboard and will likely last a long time.
Modulation matrix is very flexible, sound is great. The oscs alone dont compare to real analogs, but the effects (Which sound like a High end medium range effects proccessor) really fattens things up.
Really good for pads and odd leads.

This keyboard is so nice...
I have owned most of the VA (MS2000,JP8000,Nord Lead and Modular)and, for live playing, the Virus KB really is the thing for me. I work in a lot of different context (Jazz,Funk, experimental elctronic) and this synth is always fitting just right. The action is the best for a synth, makes my EX5 feel cheap! It can also emulate most of my vintage analogs (Arp Odyssey, Juno 60, Moog source). I might buy a micro modular (I kinda miss that tone)to beef up the lead sounds.

I love my Virus KB. It has a great sound to it, and has proven to be quite a workhorse. The dual filter setup is great, but I think my favorite part of it is the distortion section. Granted, it makes great sounds to begin with, but the 2 distortion sections just make it great. It has filter saturation distortion, which is per voice, and effects setion distortion, which distorts a whole part. There are 4 (or 5?) analog style distortions, digital distortion, bit redution, rate redution, and lowpass distortion. It really is an Industrial/EBM machine. For true evil, just dial in some FM, a few digital waves, and 2 types of distortion and you're all set. The beauty part is that the Virus can make really beautiful sounds too. Check out 001 - Overature. Stunning, lush... Good stuff. I did have some weirdness with the OS for a while, in that the Virus would boot up but not make any noises. It seems to have healed itself. 9/10.

Incredible synth. Straight up. Just got one used for $1700 - a little pricey but there's no point in getting something cheaper because it's all about the SOUND! I'm selling my JP8080 and my Nord 1 thanks to this incredible synth!

WOW, this machine Packs some Wickard VA monster sounds, I have tried The Waldorf XT (nice), the MS2000 (OK) , the Nova (nyea), & the Karma (???blah) but the Virus is rich & warm beyond anything I have tried. I think I am going to part with some $$$ & get a infected with a VIRUS KB or Indigo, PHAT/WARM/LUSH the infection is spreading
