Thanks Bruce for the very in-depth review! I just bought one of these for
$125 (that's Canadian dollars, folks), including the MD-280 disk drive and
a bunch of disks. It's a great little lo-fi sampler but tops out at 16 kHz
frequency response (i.e. 32 kHz sample rate) so don't expect crystal-clear
high end on your sound. Otherwise it's great - those sliders make some
wonderfully horrendous zippering noises when you crank them while playing back
a sound! I recommend it highly for butchering otherwise boring sounds.

I think the S612 is a fly machine for the price (i gots 2 of 'em
and a disk drive for 170$(us)). it samples 12-bit for about 10 seconds at
the lowest sample rate, and it has a nice filter, but a weak
LFO. It's cool too because it has sliders for loop start and end points.
(it also has an "alternate" feature where it plays normal, then reverse.

This sampler, for the $125 that I paid for it, is the BEST value I've ever gotten in a sampler, by far.
