I've used an Akai MPC3k, 60, EMU SP-1200, ASRX-PRO, software samplers/sequencers, etc, etc. In other words, I've used it all. I'd say the MPC1000 is one of, if not, the best sampling drum machine ever. This is saying a lot, because I'm a huge MPC3k fan. With OS2.01 installed, it's a very powerful device! It sounds like a typical MPC, that classic dark/crunchy hiphop sound, and the hiphop "swing" quality we all love! (I think all MPC's have the same sequencer "swing" feel.)
For me, the big sell, the sample chop shop features. (OS 2.01 only) I hate cutting up beats / loops, and now I don't have to worry about it:-)))) This gives me my much needed time digging for records and being creative!
My version has a 40 gig hard drive installed. I can have my entire sampling library, and my current work, on the go. I can work anywhere at anytime!!!!!!!!!!!
If you are a hip hop producer, this machine will make you smile!!!!!
I give it a 5.
