I wanna like this box too. I got it on thurs. Dec 18 and finally got a chance to play with it today only to find out pad 2 is defective. It triggers randomly and is sometimes triggered by other pads AND buttons. I'm taking it back on Mon. and I hope the store has another one in stock soon. I could deal with OS bugs but this really sucks. I guess you can never trust things first of the assembly line. I hope this isn't what Akai restructuring has brought us; cheaply made products.

I really wanted to like this box and I do love its sound, its tight sequencer, its pads, its look. I like the fx, the filter and the simpler yet effective sampler in it BUT:
the thing crashed a lot during 2 afternoons of extensive use. I mean *A LOT*. Especially during sample editting (trimming and normalizing) I experienced 7 or 8 crashes in about an hour or so. And these were total crashes (everything I did was gone!)...
Besided the crashed I experience several 'glitches' (sounds were messed up untill I pressed [main]) and one total freeze.
This was with both os 1.0 and 1.01....So I am doubting very much if I should buy it.
Ah, connecting to a pc was a doddle (even if you need to go to a special 'menu' and cannot use the unit during file exchange), the sounds were full and crisp with a lot of punch and detail..the effects are quite nice (albeit without a delay) and the filters are okay.
The sequencer is tight and quite easy to use. I was laying down grooves within minutes with this thing.

I don't know what Peter from Holland is talking about. I did test the prototype of the MPC1000 and it's great machine for the price you pay. And it's great for live muting tracks and you can play a keyboard via midi.
And if you wan't to play a melody with a sample. You have to buy the MPC4k. The MPC1000 is a phrase sampler and the MPC4000 is a full sampler.
My question to Peter is? Did you ever really used a MPC. And do you understand the concept of this machine.
