Why are people constantly downgrading the 2000 compared to the 3000. I used a 3000 with a friend and loved it, so when I went shopping for one and couldn't find one I had to settle with a 2000. When I first used it I noticed (or thought) it didn't have any of the features of the 3000. But I realized that they were there. The machine is virtually the same as the 3000. The only two advantages the 3000 has over the 2000 is the display and 64 midi channels (32 on the 2000). All of the other features are there. The sampling editing capabilities are even a step up on the 2000. Wave file editing beat tempo calculation. The sound is more cold not as warm as a 3000 but can still blow speakers in a trunk. My friend with the 3000 is even starting to like the 2000 sound. I would recommend the 2000 to any starving musician. The sequencer is not as complex as a computer but in my opinion the simplicity makes it better than computer sequencers. (See how fast you can make a bumping track on a computer). So try the 2000 out and once you make some money, move on more expensive gear. (I would still keep the 2000 though).

Nah, the Backpack is a 'paralelle' interfaced unit (what makes it portable).
If you want to access a CDRom from the MPC you need a scsi interface......but hell of a lot faster.

Not bad as a sequencer or sampler...the fx are alright as well...nothing crazy though...and no resampling...I must admit though, for the price I love my new Korg Triton..the only thing the mpc had over it was two different midi outs..so many channels to work with..but lack of a keyboard, average fx, nothing really crazy in the sequencer section, and nothing really crazy in the sample section..I would not go nuts looking for one..

Bought the MPC second hand about a week ago.
Its as simple as this, if you're looking for a sound module sampler then Akai S series, E-mu or A3K. The MPC isn;t indended to be that kinda sampler. If you're looking purely for a phrase sampler then the SP-808 or Yammie SU-700 (personally I firmly believe the 808 is the very best on the market). If you're looking for a Midi sequencerm, then sure...you could get the ST series or the Rm1X...at $699 the RM has an amazing littel sequencer built in.
Now comes the fun part.....IF......you're sick of trying drum machines that offer 909 kits but fall short, and drum machines that offer nice sounding acoustic and funk kits but have tiny buttons and no Midi implementation..well, the MPC is for you.
I produce big beat, break beat kinda stuff...and finding kits out there on machines to emulate Chem brothers, Fatboy Slim, Prodigy etc is realy difficult. So sampling the sounds is the perfect solution. If I cant find a kit\sounds I like on any of the Sample CDs I have...I simply use recycle to isolate a specific bass drum etc in a loop....and throw the wav onto the MPC. I can also take a drum hit\loops....seriously mes with it in Cooledit or SForge...then throw it back on the MPC. Absolutely limitless possibilites.
In short......I own a lot of gear.....most of it great in it's own respect. The MPC is the very best drum machine I have ever used, and a piece of gear that I have just fallen in love with from the get go ( can't believe someone called the ASRX an MPC killer....what a joke. It all comes down to what you're looking for.....simple as that.
BTW, you should be able to pick one up relatively cheap in the classifieds if you look and bargain.

hi people i live in akai, roland, korg, yamaha, etc.... land(Japan) and I own nearly every bit of kit you can imagine. The MPC rules, if you're having problems, it's a software or midi thing, use 1.7 os and sort out your system, believe me, these machines rule. i run an mpc60, 3 mpc2000's and 2 mpc3000's. I also have a power mac but my mpc's do my sequencing, think about it- music is audio, not visual, DON"T look at the screen, LISTEN!!!
