The second I laid my hands on the MPC 2000, I felt the damage that could be done by a dedicated MPC owner, someone who is going to work it day and night with no end. I didn't even know what the hell I was doing, but the user friendly sequencer and operating system made it possible for anyone to get on. The MPC has enormous powers, and that's coming form someone who uses Cakewalk Professional. So I think that it's worth saving money for, cause I am.

The Cheese Detective a professional user from Holland writes:
The beast is a winner. You take samples from most Akai machines and use wave files too. If you have a PC as well, there are enough programs available to convert MPC files to say S3000. It's simple to use and although the sampler is not as powerful as a dedicated box, I don't think it is meant to be. It's a sampling Drum amchine. The sequencer is powerful and when used in conjunction with Cubase (it reads and writes standard midi files thus making it compatible with just about everything) you can add finer touches to sequences and then use the MPC for it's ability to turn tracks on and off using the pads. Very nice. It's a bit like using an old Alesis MMT8 but then a thousand times better. I've heard people grumbling about the thing, I think they either don't understand the concept or have simply bought the wrong gadget for they needs. For my needs it's perfect. I make jungle, triphop, ambient, bummed out just smoked a big one type o music. Even people with potatoes for hands can use this machine.

KRSONGS@AOL.COM a part time user from United States writes:
I bought this unit for one simple reson...I needed a drummer. I have never been a fan of sequencing, but I'm always a big fan of fidelity. I buy CD ROMS and load them into my PC as WAV files...though can someone confirm that I can connect the MPC SCSI to my PC (assuming I have a sound card/SCSI)and use the sounds from there...so I dont have to load anything into the MPC? I have problems saving sequences/songs and I am frustrated by how quick you can fill up a floppy disk. The manual is fine in some parts...terrible in others. But I understand this machine is not just a drum machine...it's an institution. However, aside from any reservations, the MPC2000 is quite versatile and fidelity-rich. I learn every day of it's power and capabilties and will welcome any comments or information as us users learn too.

Raymond Riga a part time user from USA writes:
To answer a previous question, the MPC2000 does have full scsi capability on the

basic unit. I recently purchased mine after selling a MC-303 and an old Yamaha

RM50 rackmount drum machine, and i am very pleased. A collaborator and myself

produced a 7-minute trip-hop/jungle track over the course of one night. And this

was before i even had a manual! The MPC2000 is easy to use, and all things

considered, has a good variety of solid features. The sequencer is almost like

a middle ground between normal workstation sequencers and computer sequencers. I

refused to use the former until now.

The sampling features are a bit weak at times, but this is more than made up for

by it's interface and features. The "fit" function for auto-looping is brilliant.

I don't even know how many hours i toiled over the 10-button panel of my S2000

trying to clean up loops....now it's done with the touch of a button. However,

The MPC doesn't have the sampling power to replace the S2000...my plans on selling

it have been revoked...but all in all, this piece of equipment takes the

entire concept of electronic songwriting to a new level.
