The MPC and Propellerheads Reason 2.5 is a powerful combo. I use Reason as my sound module and use the MPC sequencer and pads. Amazing and simple to use set-up.
Has anyone seen the new MPC 2000XL-MCD? Akai has added an internal smart media card/memory stick/SD card reader/writer in the newer MPCs. Some of these storage devices can hold up to a gigabyte of sounds. Who needs cumbersome floppies and zip disks anymore? I wonder if Akai will add any new features to the MPC 2000XL???

I originally had a mpc 2000, but because I heard how good computer programs are like Reason, Kontakt, I sold it and went the computer route. I also chose the computer route because I now have several modules and synths and the 2000 only has 32 channels. I've been there for about a year. (Using Reason and Sonar) Bottom line: I want my mpc back. Why?
What I miss most from the mpc is it's ease of use and interface. People underestimate having a dedicated record and overdub button. Computers programs use a switch for this function. Also the mpc's loop record method is to die for. I like how you can record over unwanted tracks and not have to worry about overwriting your loops. That is my biggest pain for computer sequencers. Also having separate sequences for breaks organizes my thoughts the best. The computer uses linear style recording.
I went and ordered a mpc 2000xl. They have been on back order for a while. Some people say the Roland MV 8000 is the way to go and I was interested but when I found out the sequencer works like a computer, I was immediately turned off. The MV 8000 might be a better sampler though. But you would probably have a better setup if you bought an Akai mpc 2000xl combined with a Roland Fantom X. Good sequencer + Good sampler.
Anyway what I plan on doing is using the Mpc 2000xl with a Korg Triton Extreme and another one of my modules (maybe the Roland xv 5080). I would then sync my 2000xl up with Sonar and use my extra modules from there I believe using the computer for sequencing won't be too much of a pain once I got the meat of the track going with the mpc and two modules. Plus I will be able to track and mix in the Computer sequencer.

I wouldnt get a mpc today brand new but for the price of a used one the 2kxl is still a great buy. for the price of a new 2k xl fully loaded you could just get a brand new mv 8000 or just save up a little more and get a 4k le. In my studio the mpc is still king so until it breaks ima keep it.

If you like taking sounds apart and puting them back together, this is the machine. I have used many other peices of equipment from computer programs to keyboards and by far the mpc works best for me. If your a beginer on the mpc SAVE AFTER EVERY STEP!

the mpc2000xl is a nice drum machine. I make my own kicks snares high hats(well sample them) Its easy to use alot of people use it so its not hard to find information on it. How tight your beats are is up to you, if you suck your beats will suck but if your good your beats well be good To everybody making music LET THE RHYTHM PLAY
