I still like MPC3000 better than any of the 2000 series. It's just much better sounding and the beats have more human-feel. I bought both MPC2000 and MPC2000XL and sold them after spending some times with them, because they just don't sound as good as my MPC3000 which is still be best MPC on the market, period!

Yes, the MPC can import and export .Wav files via Floppy or SCSI hard drives, however it does NOT support SCSI sample transfer so you can't send a sample directly to it from a PC/Mac sample editor such as SoundForge, CoolEdit or Peak.
The MPC can also read/write Type 0 & 1 MIDI files so you can exchange sequence data with Logic (via floppy disk).
The MPC also supports MTC (MIDI Time Code) and MIDI Clock so you can have the MPC and Logic clocking together if desired.

Ya know, I really like to read the reviews from people that talk ish about this drum machine, but I'm about to be real with all that don't know, and want to learn. The MPC will not make beats for you, and it dosn't do everything you will need it to do, but what machine can? I've been on many sites, and it seems like 99% of you don't like to read a manual, but yet you want a drum machine with all the latest and greatest gadgetry! The MPC is simple to use. You can make some serious beats with this machine, and a cd-player/record player/ tape deck, just choose one, I'm sure you have one of the about collecting dust in your home! You don't need the extra options, but they are nice to have, some effects like echo's, distortion, flanging can be done with a creative mind. The FREE cd that comes with the XL is more than anyone needs. It has some nice thumpy kicks, real crispy snares, and everything in between. I have no complaints about this machine, as I make better music than most with a studio full of gear. It's such a shame that people think you need to have 5-10 grand worth of equipment. These are usually the same folks that make the worst music, but their ego is big from their gear list. A mixer is a good addition, but that's true in all studio's.

I bought the MPC2000XL-SE3 (The black and chrome one) About two months ago. Akai is indeed the master of putting what the customer wants into a machine, nothing more nothing less.
Rock solid timing, clear and artifact free sampling (not so on some other Yamaha machines) It it built like a tank, never freezes or hiccups, and is a massive machine for any type of beat driven music.
It doesnt have effects without the Xpansion, but who in the hell uses internal FX anyway? They just get in the way and make everything sound muddy. No internal sounds, so I dont have to wade through a hundred million cheezy 1998 techno wavesforms in order to use the machine.
No complaints at all.
J Grundles...I use it for Industrial and IDM so trance shouldnt be a stretch.
