The Mpc2000xl is a really great machine. The sampler isn't the best, and it has it's limitations, but that can open up a new world of creativness. Sometimes too much of something is overwhelming. I have come up with ways to make a plain 2000 do effects like echo, dual pitch, flange, reverb and many more. There are also ways to get lo-fi samples for your drums, even without re-sampling at a lower bit rate with the XL. The MPC3000 is a great machine, but it is no better than the 2000xl.. in fact, I would rate the XL over the 3000 because it has more features, and costs less. Timestretching at high quality can take a while, but only a fool would take a 10 second sample, and expect a 16bit processor to process it quickly.. I have found that good, or even poor quality can be actually good. If you are not creative, the mpc2000 will not be for you. Don't expect to spend $1000.00 and for the machine to work for you.. but I bet if you spend $3000 on a mpc3000 you will make it do what you need it to do... for all that money, it better do something! I have made countless tracks that sound great on the 2000, and the 2000xl, I I would recommend it to ANYONE that makes any kind of music. I have had mine for a little over a year.. mastered it, and still to this day, I come up with new ways to do things better. Skip that sample cd's.. buy some records/cd's or whatever, sample your drums, and learn to tweak them. Don't listen to folks talking about what such and such machine can do better than the mpc.. this can do whatever you can want it to do, even though it's not printed in the book.. it's full of suprises.

its a greta machine with its fantastic sequencing capabilities and excellence in terms of drum sets.

Great as a pattern-based sequencer. 2 more outs would have been great like on the mpc3000 but I use the midi thru ports to chain all my gear. The sampler part just sucks: if you want a real sampler, go get something like a cheap A3000 and buy the mpc for sequencing. Bottom line: all the new audio features are useless and the sampler part is still too weak. Get this machine for live sequencing (I got it to set up a live performance and I'm convinced it's what it should be only used for) or maybe drum programming (the pads are great but they will never replace cubase drum grid). Well, that's just my opinion: if some people can actually make entire tunes with this thing, great. But ifyou're not into hip hop/techno and if you work on anything more elaborated than basic 4/4 beats, you might be a bit disappointed. I give it a 4 for its great sequencer but bad sampling capabilities.

the mpc2000xl is tight for drum beats,get a virus or nord lead hooked up to this thing, and your set for any kind of electronic music.

I got the MPC2000XL a week ago and am totally in love with it. This is the drum machine I was dreaming about. If it gets better than this then I am not ready for it.
